If you could find someone to come to your home to explain them to you, I think it's a great service you should take advantage of. I did it for mom, but the man retired to Florida. It's a free service, and they don't push any one company.
Because of my moms limited income and great health, no pre-existing conditions or illnesses, she got a plan that's not a supplement to Medicare. It's an advantage plan or PPO. It's called Empire BC/BS Mediblue Freedom 1 PPO. It costs $71/mo. The main difference is that there is a copay for everything except for preventative care like a yearly physical or mammogram, dental cleaning and routine eye exam. It's worth it if you only go to the doctor a few times a year. Compared to the $300 she would be paying into a supplemental plan per month, this is so worth it.

It's hard to say.
Depends upon a lot of factors - your needs, if your current doctors are in the plans, drug coverage or no drug coverage.
My dad has AARP/United Healthcare (used to be Oxford) and FIL has GHI.
Both have the premiums taken out of their social security payment.
