Re: an a teacher request a cse meeting?

Is your dd already clasified?

Then I believe the teacher can request a meeting to decide if an admendment should be done.

It would have been prudent for her to contact you first though to let you know she wanted to possibly change something.

It sounds like if she wants to move dd to an 8:1:1 class that there must be some major concerns about her performance/behavior

yes she is , she is in collaborative classes right now. she has always been in the 15:1 till this year. she has had a few problems, sleeping in this ONE class and the teacher has been very upset about this. But that is a whole other story. she was passing everything till they moved her to this kinda of classes. now she is either failing or borderline of failing. i am going to call the sp ed office tomorrow to find out who requested this. I have a feeling it was one of 2 teachers. her ss. teacher was also asked to contact me and never did.

I think the can request one, but changes must be signed for by a parent.

Re: can a teacher request a cse meeting?

As a CTT gen ed teacher, I can suggest that the SPED teacher request a CSE meeting to review the IEP. In a way, the teacher is being proactive about her students.

However, a student has the right to be in the Lest Restrictive Environment for them. So, in Krissy's case, I would think that 15:1 is better for her, not going to 8:1 (which is really self-contained) Was she ever self contained?

Re: can a teacher request a cse meeting?

Yes, Janet a teacher CAN request a meeting of the CSE to re-convene. Usually, this is done when the teacher feels the current placement is NOT working. however, of course, a CSE never happens unless the parents consents. i wouldn't take this too personally... i think many teachers are the ones who ask to get the meetings going because they are the ones that see the child in action every day. does that make sense? i don't think she was trying to "go behind your back" or what have you.

it sounds like Krissy would benefit from the 15:1--- i am assuming she's in an inclusion setting right now? an 8:1 is probably your school's MOST restrictive environment, so i don't think that is what she needs.

Re: can a teacher request a cse meeting?

Yes, a teacher can request a CSE meeting at any time during the year. I always stay in contact with parents and give them a heads up if I request a meeting to review and/or change the IEP so there are no surprises. From what you described, it sounds like your DD is in inclusion, and it's not working out. I'm surprised the teacher is looking to place her in the 8:1:1, and skipping over the 15:1. In my district we need SIGNIFICANT documentation in order to go more restrictive, so as a parent, I would definitely request why they are making this recommendation, and ask for the documentation to prove it. Ask- what are the concerns? What interventions have they implemented? For how long? Was any progress shown?, etc...

Like the others said, the teacher can, but she should have definitely contacted you first.

Re: can a teacher request a cse meeting?

thanks for all the answers.
as for some answers.. yes she has always been in a 15:1 till this year. at the last cse meeting they made me feel like a bad mom for wanting to hold her back and not putting her in a collaborative setting. i am going to call the sp. ed. office tomorrow to see who requested this meeting and why.
