Cablevision Box

When DH and I moved into our new home Cablevision brought a new box and didn't bother taking the old one. They told us that we had to return it to the Optimum Store. Well, we never did and Cablevision never charged us extra for it. I'd like to hook up another t.v. to the second cable box but am wondering if activating the second cable box will send a signal to Cablevision and thus lead them to charge us for a second box. If so, I'll just hook the t.v. up to the cable line and forget about the box.

Re: Cablevision Box

The box might work for a little while, then will be disabled. I would return the box b/c you will eventually get a bill for it from the old account - and it's not cheap.

ETA - they will charge you the replacement fee for the box, not the monthly rental fee.

Good to know. Actually, this is our third box since we moved (5/08). This past weekend we returned a box to trade up to a digital box. I'll return it as soon as I can.

Re: Cablevision Box

Wow... thanks for this info... For some reason they gave us all new boxes instead of just giving us one new one like we asked. Nobody told me we had to return the old boxes, I was just going to keep them until we moved an returned them all. They gave us one new remote too. So strange. Guess I'll have to figure out where to return them. Makes no sense lol

Re: Cablevision Box

the box may work for a day..once id's of the box don't match the address, it "should" shut off. This may or may not happen but i would just return the box.. eventually it will catch up to you.
