BTDT Pregos otr Ladies in Second Trimester

What do you think the cutoff time for the length of a drive during your second trimester would be?

We are trying to plan a Fall babymoon and I don't want to fly with all this nonsense with the airlines-- so we are looking at places within driving distance.

We are still looking, but one place is 1.5 hours and another can be like 5 hours. I think 5 is probably going to be too long for a road trip though.

When I was 22 weeks, we drove down to Florida and back.

Wasn't an issue for me - we just stopped a little more than usual, so I can stretch and pee Chat Icon

We went to DC in May, when I was just starting my second tri. The drive wasn't bad, but it was warm that week. And we walked a lot. But I drank my water. I think I peed in every building but the white house. And I'm sure if I asked W nicely, I would have peed there too. Chat Icon

In the second trimester, I would say 5 hours isn't too much.

My dr said he would only approve for me to fly before 27 weeks. But, driving is safe in the 2nd. I am in my 3rd and we are going to Delaware for the weekend to see my brother, SIL, and nephew.

Unless you have had complications with your pregnancy, you should be able to drive in the 2nd.

We're going to Maine (about 8 hours away) when I'm 20 weeks. I think as long as you make frequent bathroom stops and walk around for a few minutes, you'll be fine.

Re: BTDT Pregos otr Ladies in Second Trimester

in the second trimester you wouldn't have any problems going 10 hours except stopping for the bathroom. go wherever you want!

even now at 39 weeks, i could be in the car for any length of time as long as i have bathroom breaks. i'm still comfortable

Hmmm, I didn't even think of this. We have a trip to Boston planned, and I'll be in my 2nd trimester. Good question!

I agree as well. Just as long as you can stop to pee, you'll be fine.

Re: BTDT Pregos otr Ladies in Second Trimester

I drove up to NY in May...I was 20/21 weeks.
The drive up was 8.5 hours and driving home was 9 hours. I brought my snoogle with me to try to strecth my legs as much as possible.

Although the next day when we returned from our trip I had some cramping. My dr had me stay off my feet and keep the elevated the whole night to keep the pressure off my uterus. She said is was probably just some round ligament pain from sitting for so long.
I felt fine the next day.

In my second trimester, I flew from Dallas to London and back with a stop in North Carolina. So I don't think there are any limits on your driving. Third trimester would be a different story.

ITA When I was 7 months pregnant with my DS we took a 5 hour trip to Maine and I was fine. Actually we will probably be taking the trip again in August and I will be 7 months pregnant again. Chat Icon Chat Icon

When I was 27 weeks, we went to Newport - it was like 4 - 5 hours with a couple of stops. It was fine.
