BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

Can you please share who watched DC #1 during the actual labor? I was wondering because with DD, both sets of parents were at the hospital in the waiting room and they both want to be there again. I don't know how that could possibly happen b/c someone needs to be home with DD. Please tell me how you made it work! TIA!

I had a scheduled c-section; however, my ILs watched DD and my parents came to the hospital. As we all know, a lot changes once you have kids! Chat Icon Do you have a friend or family member close-by?

And oh yeah, my ILs brought DD to the hospital shortly after I gave birth! Chat Icon

I'm having a scheduled c-section with my 2nd so Kaydyn will be at the hospital with my ILs and my mom....but do you have any other family/friends that will be able to watch her and bring her up to the hospital once you give birth?

Thank you for your responses! I have my 2 sisters close by and my neighbors are awesome about watching DD from time to time (I watch their 16 month old too). I guess we'll have to draw straws to see who watches DD and who waits at the hospital! Personally I don't think either choice is bad.Chat Icon

I went into labor at 1:30 am and my neighbor came over to watch DS until my in-laws drove there --they got to my apt about 3:00 am

DS#2 was born at 4:30 am and then after my parents saw me they watched DS#1 so my in laws could come to hopsital

My in laws watched DS#1 until I came home

I think this is what we'll have to do ... set up a rotation of sorts.

That might work as well...whoever is closest comes over when you are going to the hospital and then they switch out from there.

We live 8 hours away from any family. So we had to rely on friends. Then after DD#2 was born DH picked up DD#1 brought her to the hospital to meet the baby then he took her home and stayed home with her instead of at the hospital with me. Here in Ca at the hospital I had my babies at everyone gets there own room and DH's can stay the night with you. So that was something we missed out on without having family closeChat Icon

Try to make a plan if you go at night or day.

When did you go to the hospital for DD #1?

My track record is, I labor during the day and go to the hospital at night, delivering just after midnight. If that happens for the 3rd time, then my kids will be sleeping when I leave for the hospital and my BIL and his girlfriend are going to come over.

If it's during the day - which is a total possiblity- I am going to ask my friend to watch the 2 little ones until my mother and MIL come back..

My 9 yr old will be in the waiting room wether it happens at night or day.

If it's during my friends working hours- then someone will stay back with them until my friend gets home...and if that doesn't work out then they will just have to joing everyone in the waiting room.

ETA: I live so close to the hospital (10 min) and my Mil lives only 2 minutes so as soon as I'm 10 cm, all my kids will be in the waiting room waiting to meet their lil bro or sis.

As far as the hospital stay itself- I am not sure what's going to happen. I think my mom is taking 2 days off of work to help out at home while Fred is back and forth. I am preparing myself knowing he won't be there as much as the last 2 times b/c the kids need him at home. Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

My sister slept over the night I started labor, since I knew I'd be going to the hospital at some point during the night. I wound up waiting until 6am, and my parents come over later that morning. They brought Ella to the hospital.

If my sister hadn't been around, I would have woken my parents to come over, or brought Ella to their house.

Re: BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

I have to work this out too. DH's parents are retired and available, usually, but they generally travel around the time I'm due. I'm not sure if they still plan to go away this yr so he has to ask.

If I go into labor during daycare hours, in October, then I assume we'll have him there until a family member can get to him.

If I go into labor at night - I guess I'll call my mom and she'll have to skip being at the hospital.

My problem is, I barely made it to the hospital in time to deliver him, so I'm really concerned I'm going to be in labor, by myself with him, and completely lost as to what to do with him.

Re: BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

I am in the middle of figuring out what to do right now.

I am scheduled for a c-section at 11am on a Thursday. Jack goes to school from 9-11 on Thursdays. I think I will have my dad take him to school, and pick him up. Bring him back here for lunch and put him down for a nap. My mother will be at the hospital waiting for the baby to arrive. Then I'm thinking hopefully once he wakes up around 3:30 my dad can bring him up to the hospital so that I can see him.

The rest of the hospital stay, I'm going to have DH bring him up with him first thing in the mornings - stay from 10-12(ish) then have one of my parents take him home for a nap. If they want to bring him back they can, and DH will take him home around 6:00ish.

This is all worked out perfectly in my head, and we all know with kids, nothing is a perfect schedule so I may have to wing it a bit! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

Since my c/s wil be scheduled, DD will be in the waiting room waiting for when we are through. My parents will be there with her or MIL.

I want to see her as soon as I get out of recovery and for her to meet the baby.

ETA - (re-read the topic Chat Icon )

My father, thankfully, is home so he'll be able to watch DD when DH comes to visit. And now that I think about it, the week I am scheduled for my parents are supposed to be going on vacation, but they obviously won't....so my mother will be around as well.

I don't think DH will be spending as much time at the hospital as he did when DD was born. But he'll be bringing her with him as much as he can...and then taking her home for naps, etc.

But we'll have enough family around to help with DD.

I would ask the grandparents to not wait in the hospital and ask for help with your child at home. They can then take turns coming to visit.

Re: BTDT moms of 2+ re: DC#1 and hospital stay

I had my SIL watch DD so my parents and inlaws could come to the hospital. We never really made a plan, so it just sort of fell into place. She had never watched DD alone before (she was 18), but it all worked out. My inlaws didn't make it to the hospital for the birth anyway, but my parents were there waiting since they drove me to the hospital and my dh met me there.
