Re: BTDT Moms Breastfeeding Question

Nursing my first was a horrific experience. It was constant pain the entire 14 months I nursed him. He was partially tongue tied which we didn't know. SO he had a shallow poor latch. I refused to give up and just kept going. Had he not been my first he would have been ff. I just didn't know any better and thought that is what bf'ing was like.
When dd was born she had a perfect latch from the beginning. I never had any pain nursing her. It was just so easy. It was a perfect nursing experience and she nursed until a little over 2 years old.
I am hoping #3 will be like #2 but at least now I know what it can be like and will speak up if something is wrong.

eta: with #1 I had a very low supply and had to do all the tricks just to keep ds fed. With dd I had more then enough milk for her and never had to worry about supply. It all came down to the latch.

BTDT Moms Breastfeeding Question

I know other moms who have totally different experiences nursing with different children. Hopefully this will be your experience too! Good luck!

Re: BTDT Moms Breastfeeding Question

We had a rocky start the first time, but were ultimately successful. It CAN be done, but you're going to need some help and support from your DH and other mommies. A baby carrier that you can nurse in, a bunch of toys for your DD to play with when you're nursing are keys (so I've been told). Find the nearest LLL group and the # of a good LC in case you need extra assistance.

Good luck!!

Re: BTDT Moms Breastfeeding Question

I found it tough in the beginning. DS was in NICU and as a result of his wires, he preferred nursing on one side. So, I would nurse him on one side and pump the other. That one nipple took a beating! But over time he nursed from both sides, my nipple healed, and it became alot easier.
