Britax Marathon car seat question....
we tried installing our car seat this weekend, rear facing since dd is not a year old yet. at the store they showed us how to do it and showed us to anchor it with the anchor strap to the hook under the seat. we have an Altima and there is no hook under the seat or on the floor. I called Nissan and they said they have never heard of putting the convertible car seat rear facing. Does anyone have an Altima with a rear facing car seat? If so, how did you anchor it?
TIA!!

Re: Britax Marathon car seat question....
Uou can put convertible seats rear facing. Have the seat inspected and they will do it for you. Or the Britax website has instructions on it that may help.

it's a 2006. we checked and there is no anchor strap or hook. we also checked my MIL & BIL's Altima and they don't have an anchor hook either. I even called Nissan service department and spoke to the manager and they said there is no acnhor hook under the seat...

It's not under the seat near the floor, it's in the crease of the where the back and bottom of the seat meet. All newer vehicles have them. They are small metal things. I think you might be looking in the wrong spot based on what you posted above.

Thanks, we hooked those up correctly, but there is a strap and a hook that comes off the back of the car seat to anchor it that we can't figure out. I think we may go to buy buy baby tomorrow and ask if they can help us out.

That long strap is for the tether and you don't use that for rear facing. You only need to anchor it in for rear facing. When you put it forward facing then you use the tether.

Thank you! So, we are driving ourselves nuts for nothing!! I thought they told us in the store that you had to anchor it. Guess my mommy brain is really fried!

correct with everything above... the other anchor strap is in the creas of the seats as well for the rear facing.... when you turn the seat around is when you use all 3 straps..

Re: Britax Marathon car seat question....
The rear tether strap that you are talking about is anchored to the floor in front of the seat when the seat is in the rear facing position. If there are no floor anchors (to which you are saying there are not), you need to use the strap attachment and use that to hook it to a stationary object on the front seat (not a part of the seat that would move if the person moves the seat forwards or backwards). SOunds very confusing, but when I took my seat to be inspected, I learned all about it. I used my Marathon rear facing with just the latch connectors, not the rear tether.

Re: Britax Marathon car seat question....
You do need to use the tether strap for rear facing position. Trish described it perfectly. We have a 2006 minivan and had to loop the smaller strap around a stationary part of the front passenger. Not the part that moved if you adjust the seat forward or back but the actual achored part of the seat. I did this in our 1999 SUV as well. Otherwise the seat sits too high IMO and the baby is leaning too much forward (forward in the seat, not towards the front of the car) Not sure why the person at Nissan would say that ppl dont use the convertible seat rear facing, they clearly were clueless. Where do you live? I am the carseat queen and can install any carseat in any car.

Re: Britax Marathon car seat question....
According to the Marathon owner's manual, you CAN use the Versa-Tether rear facing. I knew you could in the Boulevard, and I've been using it before we turned it forward-facing. Page 24-25 of the manual http://www.britaxusa.com/uploads/docs/cateauchyx.pdf shows you how to use it.
Most convertible seats can't use a tether rear-facing, but that's one reason I like Britax. It really secures the seat so much better. There is also a small (8" or so) strap that you can wrap around a secure part of the car to attach the Versatether to if you don't have a clip under the front seats.
Definitely use it, though. Without it, you can feel a little wiggle in the seat, no matter how tight. With the strap, that thing isn't moving for anything....
