Breastfeeding and baby care - did you take any classes?

Did you take a breastfeeding class prior to the birth or just had instructions from the hospital after birth?

Did you also take a baby care class prior to giving birth or did you wait for the individual explanation for you and your baby?

If you did it, was it worse it since the hospital will "teach" you what to do?

TIA

Re: Breastfeeding and baby care - did you take any classes?

I am due in June. I have time. But I wanted to know if I should take those classes prior to delivery.

I just want to make sure they are worse the money.

I don't really want a duplicate of what they will tell me during my stay in the hospital.

I did not take a breastfeeding class before my baby was born, and i'm still breastfeeding 6 months later! It probably would have helped me to know a little more what to expect and what my body was going to go through.

I did take a child birthing class - and although I didn't have a long labor, and i did have contractions until after water broke, I think it did help. It made my husband realize more what was going to happen, and overall I felt more prepared - but I didn't use any of the breathing techniques - most helpful if you don't have an epi (I did!!!) or have a long labor with contractions that start way before the baby comes.

I took both. While I found the breastfeeding class informative, it really didn't teach me how to breastfeed. The infant care class was VERY helpful and I'm very happy I took it. I also took birthing classes which were very helpful too.

Dr advised me against BF classes, but my hospital is known for being BF friendly. They were so helpful after the birth. I had a c-section, and the baby was latched onto me within 40 minutes.

I didn't take either class, but I did read a few BFing books which were helpful for knowing what to expect and how to latch on.

I took a breastfeeding class at 8 months pg, and thank god i did. They didn't show me in the hospital and the LC there was no help.

I didn't take a baby care class, the nurse showed DH pretty much how to wash her, change her etc.

I didn't take a BF class but I wish I did. I had no idea what to expect, I learned quickly and am still BF at 7 months, but I wish I was more prepared.

Re: Breastfeeding and baby care - did you take any classes?

I took a childbirth class which I was really happy I did; I took a baby care class which was okay; I wish I took a breastfeeding class -- they helped me in the hospital, but I just wish I knew more before going into it. I ended up just pumping for 5 months.
