Books you read in high school

I hate to admit it but I didn't read all the books in high school we were supposed to. I feel like I'm missing out on something. Can anyone remember books from the past that we were supposed to read? I am going to catch up on what I should have done years ago.

Re: Books you read in high school

I teach HS English. Some of the most popular books we teach are:

Novels:
Of Mice and Men
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Catcher in the Rye
Night
The Great Gatsby
The Bluest Eye
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Stranger
The Metamorphosis (not really a novel, but whatever...)
Lord of the Flies
1984

Plays:
Fences
Death of a Salesman
A Streetcar Named Desire
A Raisin in the Sun

Plus the Shakespeare standbys:
Romeo & Juliet
Julius Cesar
Hamlet
Macbeth
A Midsummer Night's Dream
Othello
(There is a Shakespeare elective that gets into the harder stuff like King Lear etc.)

I am mentally going through all of the book rooms right now, trying to think of every book. I have left out tons.

Happy Reading!

I was just talking to a friend about this and we both want to re-read stuff from HS. I just ordered last night from Amazon, "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Anna Karinina". I bought "used, like new" copies and they were really cheap. I also bought "The Time Travelers Wife", since I've heard that its really good!

ETA: I also made a list of other books I'd like to eventually read. Some are mentioned above and here are some others:
Pride and Prejudice
Diary of Anne Frank
The Count of Monte Cristo
Animal Farm
Memoirs of a Geisha

The one that sticks out in my head is Go Ask Alice.... I was completely shocked reading that one at 14 years old. Plus I went to a Catholic high school!

Re: Books you read in high school

My favorite book from high school was Exodus by Leon Uris. To this day I don't know why I loved that book so much - something about it just spoke to me.

Re: Books you read in high school

I want to re-read several of these. I did read most of the books we were supposed to read and then I was an English major. I almost became an English teacher. I want to read them again because a.) I miss some of them b.) I can take something different from them now that I have more life experience and c.) there were some books that were law related that I read before I ever knew I wanted to go into law. I want to see what I think now!

Sometimes I envy the friend who went through my major with me and did become an English teacher. These are not just distant memories for her.
