Blocked Tear Duct

DD has had a blocked tear duct since birth. It had disappeared for weeks and came back again about 3 weeks ago. We had a scheduled doctors visit and she prescribed eye drops. I called her today as it still hasnt cleared up and her prescription has ran out.

Doc says she thinks DD will have to have surgery sooner than later to clear this upChat Icon She did discuss this with us at the last visit but said maybe when she was a year old or more....

Anyone else have problems with DC's tear ducts and what did you do?

TIA..I really dont want her to have an operation so soon but dont want this to bother her for another 5 months.

Re: Blocked Tear Duct

Ella has one, and our ped suggested massaging/applying pressure to the inner corner of her eye (against her nose).

It should help unclog it. I've noticed an improvement.

Noah had one goopy eye for almost 12 weeks, he had one course of antibiotic drops but they did nothing. Then, all of the sudden, it went away!! So just give it some time, massage it and try not to get too grossed out!!!

Emily had this on and off when she was younger and I found that the more I masseged it and did things to it the worse it got. Once I just left it alone it went away all on it's own.

I think a lot of things bother us a lot more then it bothers them.

Re: Blocked Tear Duct

keep massaging. it will work itself out. its not a pretty surgery so keep at it. My son's cleared up in a few months but surgery was an option for us!
