Blanket ?
At night DS goes to bed with a blanket, but I usually take it away after he goes to sleep unless he is laying on it... He usually sleeps in pjs and a sleep sack and MIL has a big problem with it. She thinks that he has been sick for the last month b/c he is too cold at night (he has had the croup, double ear infection, horrible sore throat, and than bad bronchitis...) and that's what is making him sick, but not the four other kids my mom babysits for who have been sick also And then she told us that b/c I am taking away his blanket at night, he has nothing to bond with and he won't have anything to form an emotional attachment to. Is that bad that I take away his blanket? Besides the whole SIDS thing, I don't want him to be stuck on one particular toy/blanket, etc... He loves all his toys equally, and if he had a lovey, I would give it to him at night, but he doesn't... So is it bad of me that I take away his blanket at night? I didn't see a problem with it, but maybe I'm wrong??

Re: Blanket ?
how old is DS? Mine sleeps with 2 blanket since he came home from the hospital. He is 11 months. I know A LOT of people have an issue with the blankets. Do what you feel is best, it's your kid.

Re: Blanket ?
I agree with PP.....I give my daughter a blanket......it gets cold in her room and even with her pjs and sleep sack she still would feel very cold and wake at night. She loves blankets.....any and all but at night we only give her a handmade blanket because it seems more breathable.
Do what you are comfortable with.....your child will be just fine with or without the blanket......
If you son was cold at night because he didn't have a blanket he most likely would be waking during the night......

Re: Blanket ?
He's 9 months. I'll prolly start to use a blanket soon since it's getting a lot colder, but I didn't know if it was bad that I wasn't giving him something to "bond" with lol Oh well! Thanks for your response

You're right. He has been STTN since he was like 5 weeks, so I guess he's not that cold. My heat is on high, plus we live in a condo, so we get everybody elses heat too, so I guess that helps. Thanks!

Re: Blanket ?
Personally, I gave each of my children lovies at a VERY young age. I wanted them to have something to attach to.

Yeah, I tried that with a few different lovies, but he never really got into any of them.. I guess he finds comfort in other ways? Either way, I guess I'll be putting a blanket on him now anyway!

Re: Blanket ?
My DS who is 2 has a blanket that he cannot LIVE without! He's had it since he was born. Now that it is colder he has that blanket plus a quilt that my aunt made for him. He's covered his face with it to block out the light and has had no problems. I do check on him a million times a night though! I don't think it's a bad thing to take it away, but as he gets older he might start looking for it. What if you cut it to make it smaller???

Re: Blanket ?
DS goes to sleep with a blanet. I don't start him out with one b/c he likes to roll over after a while of just staring at his mobile (even if it shut off the kid just loves it... LOL) Anyway, after I see in the monitor he rolled over I know it's a few short mins till he goes to sleep. I usually put one on top of him them. Sometimes it starts to get a little cold in the middle of the night. I only cover his butt. He rarely moves around and is fine. We have central air and sometimes it takes a while till the heat kicks on.

Re: Blanket ?
ds started having a blanket in his crib at 7 months.... but he really doesnt wear it.... i can say my mother disagrees with what ds wears to sleep, well did disagree, as he wears only cotton pjs and an undeshirt... until she babysat and tried putting fleece fottie pjs on ds and well, after a 1/2 hour he was in cotton ones...

Re: Blanket ?
I am paranoid about SIDS--even with my 2 yr old
So...this is what I do:
Sleepsak for my 8 month old Fleecy pjs for my 2 year old Both LOVE these tiny burp clothes I give them as a security/lovey which they rub their face with
I also bought Breathable Blanket for my 2 yr old
