Birthday Party RSVPs??

I need some advice on what to do with this...

DD wanted to invite her classmates to her 4th birthday party. I mailed invitations home to all of them from their class list. The RSVP date was two days ago and only 1 RSVPed! What would you do? Do I assume they are not coming? So frustrating!! I want to make sure we have an accurate head count for food- and this is like 10 families!

I really do not know the parents too well...

Search my posts on the subject from last month!!

In the end though, out of 24 invites, I didn't hear from 8 AT ALL. And I got calls/emails from people saying yes as late as the Thursday before the party (on Saturday).

Re: Birthday Party RSVPs??

hmm... i couldn't find anything...

Did those 8 people just not show up??

What kills me is that one of these people just had a party last month that we RSVPed and went too!! Chat Icon

I also feel so bad for DD who was so excited to invite her friends from school! Chat Icon

Re: Birthday Party RSVPs??

i would call and ask for an answer.

they may have not responded because they do not know you that well either. a quick phone call and a bit of intro may help them make a decision.

Do you have their email addresses? If so, I'd say to email them and kindly ask them to RSVP (I personally hate making calls to people I don't know well! But, I'd make the calls if I had to).

I wouldn't let it go. Simple phone calls such as "Hi, this is Mary, Joey's mom. I was just calling to see if Susie is able to attend Joey's birthday party."

For your DD's sake, do it. Chat Icon

yup! do it so your DD knows who is coming. don't think it is rude to call since they were not polite enough to rsvp.

I didn't have anyone show except the people who responded yes. And actually one of the late yes's, did not show (and they were the only no show).

BTW, I asked the teacher if she minded just reminding parents to RSVP (I didn't expect her to GET me any replies).

Re: Birthday Party RSVPs??

I'd call. Not pleasant, but suck it up and do it. Sorry you have to deal with this. I guess this is what I'll have to deal with next year.

I'd request that the school add email addresses to the contact sheet.

DD is starting nursery school in September, and the teacher emailed everyone in a mass email so we'd have each other's email addresses so we can get in contact if we needed to.

I would call since you don't see them and don't have their email. You could say you need to know if their DC is attending because you have to finalize plans and give in a head count or do favors etc. Or you could just ask if they got the invite and tell them you are finalizing plans and need to know if they are attending. We have had this every year. For us we will be missing about 22 rsvps. Almost all of them ended up coming. We invited 30 and 24 came. I actually had one parent say she never desides until a few days before because she won't know what her older kids will be doing. I even had on mom who said no before the RSVP date last year then said yes 2 days before!

Re: Birthday Party RSVPs??

I personally did not follow up with anyone who did not RSVP. I am friendly with a few moms so they asked for me. They asked the other moms if they were coming. At the end, I only had a handful who did not RSVP at all. No one showed up who did not RSVP yes. We did get a handful of RSVPs 1-3 days before the party. This was for both DS's birthday party and end of school year bbq. I did not put a RSVP date though.

When is the birthday party?

I'm sorry. I know DS would be disappointed if his classmates did not come to his party.

August is a big travel month. I know that we have plans for every weekend in August already. I always RSVP though.
