Biaxin

Has anyone taken this? I just started it last night and so far I have tolerated it okay but I know the side effects can be terrible. I am just wondering if 12 hours into my first dose means I will be fine. WDYT?

I am such a worry wart. I hate being nauseous or throwing up and I have to go back to work tomorrow and I won't be able to if I am feeling sick.

Re: Biaxin

Take it with food. It can be rough on your stomache.

Re: Biaxin

DH just stopped taking it. He took it for about 2 weeks...with food, with real OJ, and nothing made the nauteous go away. The doctor told him to stop taking it, because it was making him feel terrible.

Did it make him feel terrible immediately or after a couple of doses?

It was pretty immediate. He thought after a few days, when his system got used to it, it would go away. He called the doctor and she told him to drink OJ with his breakfast (something he normally can't have on a regular basis) and if he still felt that way in a week, to call her back. So...after about 2 weeks and the feelings never went away, she took him off it.

Don't be scared. I started it last night about 7 p.m. I took them with dinner. Do you have to take 2 huge yellow 500 mg pills also?

So far I feel fine (from the medicine). I'm sorry, didn't meant to freak you out Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yep, two yellow pills. Going to take that now in addition to prednisone - UGH!! I'll let you know if I have any side effects.

Re: Biaxin

I used to hate it because I already have a weak stomach.

But now I ask for it. Why? Because it kicks bronchitis' @ss.

I usually don't get nauseous because I always take it with food - usually 30 minutes after the fact.

Never with food that could add to problems like dairy or anything spicy.

My usual symptom is (sorry to be graphic here but you asked!) diarrhea.

I figure I can deal with 10 days of it, if it means getting rid of my other symptoms.

Good luck and I hope he feels better! Chat Icon

ahhh!! Just took it with milk Chat Icon The bottle said to take with food or milk. I took it with milk because I also had to take my prednisone and the nurse told me to take it with milk.

Is the biaxin now going to upset my stomach?

Re: Biaxin

I had a terrible experience with Biaxin a few years back. I couldn't eat at all because my stomach was upset and it made food taste so awful!!
Give it a day or two and if you have the same reaction, ask for another antibiotic!
