BFing moms who supplement a feeding

with formula...

What kind do you use?

The hospital got me started on Similac..but lately he's been spitting it up.... (not every time but most of the time)

Should I ask the peditrician about switiching (although Im unsure if its the formula or if hes just guzzling it too fast since he works so hard when we BF)

Is there a kind thats thin like BM?

I supplement 1-2 feedings a day with Similac since that was what she drank in the hospital. When I first started using the bottles, Katherine wouldn't spit up, but she would cry and choke with formula running down her chin during the first half of every feeding--I think because she wasn't used to the bottles and the formula was coming out too quickly. Now, she has no problem at all.

I think that you should ask your pediatrician before you switch formulas.

I am also supplementing feedings with formula because I don't feel like I have enough milk, and we haven't gotten the breastfeeding thing down pat yet. I'm pumping but towards the end of the day I get less so I supplement with formula.

The hospital gave me enfamil with Lipil. That's what they automatically use with all the babies there unless they had some kind of problem that made them need something else.

I noticed that Emily spits up a bit with formula but none at all with BM, just clean burps. I think it is because the formula is heavier and sits heavier on her belly.

As far as changing formulas, just call the pediatritian. They might be able to advise you over the phone. I have friends who called for EVERYTHING in the beginning.

Good luck.

We're using Horizon Organic Formula. I tried switching to Good Start but it constipated her so we are back to the organic.
