Not sure but I hope you are not doing it! I don't think breathing in soot is good for you!

I first use the vacuum with the bristle extension to get most of the real loose dirt on the bricks and then I get a real damp sponge and wipe it, be careful not to make it too wet or it will just smudge the dirt everywhere. GL and wear a mask.

The fireplace actually hasn't been used in ages (we just got that room renovated), and it's just a little soot on some of the bricks in the front, a scrub brush & sponge w/ some soapy water seemed to do the trick, but we'll see.Chat Icon

I used Oxyclean on mine. Mixed it in a little spray bottle w warm water. Worked great!
