Bedtime - Working Moms Question

I am going back to work soon and my LO is 4 months. He stays up pretty late (9:00 - 10:30) most days but he is still so little.

I would love for him to go to bed between 9 - 10 forever so we can spend a lot of time together after work.

Has anyone been successful in setting a bedtime this late? From what I have been reading most go to bed so early.

I can bring him to his nanny asleep so he doesnt have to get up really early which should help right?

Thanks!

My cousin is a SAHM but her son goes to bed between 9:30-10 every night and sleeps about 12 hours. She likes it bc she can still sleep in Chat Icon Works for her!

I think it depends on the child... my first DC went to bed at 7pm. He just couldnt stay up later. With my second DC, we just got her on a later schedule (mostly to match DC1) from the get go and it worked very well. I think 9-10 would be hard but DD has had an 8:30pm bedtime since she was born and she has always slept later which is an added bonus. The main difference I noticed is that her third nap lasted a lot longer than DC1 (like she took it until a little before a year old!)

Re: Bedtime - Working Moms Question

DS used to go down for the night around 9-10pm around this age... but we rearranged his nap schedule to fit our schedules. About three weeks before going back to work, we moved his naps up a 1/2 hr at a time and did not let his last nap go after 4:30. He was bathed at 7pm, rocked with a book and given his last bottle (not rocked) at 7:30. He was out by 7:45-8.

I am up at 5am everyday... I couldn't have a baby up until 10pm. We had to make it work. It took some time, but it happened.

GL!

Re: Bedtime - Working Moms Question

My DD stays up that late. I get home around 7pm and she stays up until about 9:15-10:15. Some nights she goes to bed earlier like 8:30 but that is on the rare side. I didn't have to do anything to get her on this schedule she just sort of did it on her own. She then sleeps til about 7:30-8:00am and then takes a good long nap in the late morning.

glad I'm not the only one Chat Icon

DD has never gone to bed before 8:30 in her entire life. She's always been a night owl. She sleeps until 7-8am.

Lately she has been later, between 9-9:30. I dont mind. I enjoy snuggling with her and watching tv. She takes a long afternoon nap at daycare.

It's never anything we did, just the bedtime that developed.

Thanks guys! I guess our LO's adapt to our lifestyle and stay up late with us! I hope it continues for me. My little guy just went to bed so I am so happy right now!

Re: Bedtime - Working Moms Question

My daughter used to have a late bedtime. She would go in around 10pm. At the time DH was out of work and we didn't have to wake her up in the AM. She would sleep from 10pm-11am. DH loved it because he could sleep in. I loved it because I could spend some time with her when I got home from work.

Once DH went back to work and we now have to wake the kids up at 7am, they need to go to bed around 8:30/9pm or they are cranks in the morning. Neither one will fall back to sleep once we wake them up so we had to push bedtime up.

Re: Bedtime - Working Moms Question

I think it depends on the child and what time they have to be up in the am.

My boys have always had a later bedtime because we didn't have to get them up in the am. Our nanny comes to us. They are 2 and 3 now and my 3 yo still goes to bed between 9 and 10 most nights and the 2 yo anytime after that but that is another story :)

See what works best for you and your baby.

Our DS goes to bed between 8:30-9 and gets up between7:30-8am. He is just about 7 months. He takes a third nap at around 5-5:30 for about an hr (sometimes a bit less) which helps him to stay up.

Re: Bedtime - Working Moms Question

I think it depends on how well your DC will sleep at the nanny.

DS used to stay up late but, once he started daycare he wouldn't nap there as much and would pass out pretty early at home (7ish).

Now that he's almost 2, he goes to bed around 8:30-9pm and wakes up between 6 and 7am on average.

When I was working ds snoozed on he way home from 630-7pm then went to bed at 10pm. The baby upstairs from us went to bed at 10 pm also. So we could spend more time w ds it worked out, plus he would take 2 long naps for my inlaws They had a nice break twice a day
