Bathroom remodel has begun - my house is the money pit!!

Yesterday they gutted our bathroom. I put a picture in my house album that my friend/the contractor sent to me at work with a note that said "Okay we're going home now!" Haha.

It's very exciting, but as we suspected, it has just revealed new problems.

One of the support beams that holds up the WALL between the bathroom and the kitchen was cut to allow for plumbing lines then NEVER REINFORCED!! And then the pipe that goes out through the roof (to vent - there is a name for it but I don't know it) - the seal around it is totally dried up and rotted away so all this rain water has been getting through our roof!

So those were two unexpected repairs to add to the list...

It annoys me that the inspector's report didn't pick up on the problem with the beams too. We bought the house as-is, but it would have been nice to have the heads up!

Either way, I will be happy when it is all done - no more ugly bathroom and rotten flloor! I can't wait to post "after" pictures!

for the remodel and for the other things that came up. Believe me I feel your pain completely. But in the end you both will be happy you found these things now and not after you finished the remodel. It still surprises me when we find something behind a wall, but it shouldn't anymore. But some people just try to take the easy way out or don't know better. Lots of luck! Take lots of pics.

I just looked at your pics because we are also remodeling our new home--what gorgeous hard wood floors they had covered under the ugly carpets!!!! Do you mind FMing me how much the bath remodel is costing? Ours is even worse than yours!

Thanks for the encouragement! We know it will be worth it in the end and we are glad we are finding these problems out now - before we try to finish the basement or remodel the kitchen and it is a BIGGER problem - it's just frustrating (and expensive!!) for now!

The one place we did luck out with our discovery was the floors!! We were VERY excited when we pulled up the green monstrosity and found those underneath. All I had to do was clean them!
