bath time is no more fun...

Dd is 13m old... she used to love baths... Now all she does is scream like we are torturing her. Any suggestions? A phase? I get anxious every time she needs a bath... At this point I'd rather not bathe her. :(

She also recently hates the pool, but the water might have still been a bit chilly.

Are you sure the temp is warm enough? Did she have a bad experience recently?

DS stopped liking the bath when we changed him from the infant bath into the regular bath, but that was short lived. Once he got used it it, he started liking it even more.

My suggestions...make sure the water is warm enough and buy her a new bath toy. DS loves stacking cups with holes in the bottom so the water trickles out. Sometimes I also give him a bubble bath...he loves that!

Nothing super traumatic.... We switched her to the regular tub. ... The first time was fine.... Now it's a nightmare. I'll try a new toy and make sure it's warm. It's such a struggle that it hurts me when she cries.

yes it's a phase. My son went through the same thing around the same age. He's fine with baths now (18 months).

Do you have a bath mat? Maybe try a soft one of those. She could be intimidated by the big tub. DD loves to hold the washcloth and wash herself and we tell her each body part to wash as she goes. She also loves the bath toy set from B Toys (target carries them). It's a nice set and really grows with them. Hopefully she gets over it soon!

Phase. DD went through this. I thought it would never end. It will.

Good luck. I feel for you.

Re: bath time is no more fun...

Dd will sometimes go on spurts where she will scream and writhe around. Sometimes I can occupy her by pouring the water slowly from a pitcher - she tries to grab it. Otherwise, I hold her while DH tries to wash her down ASAP (or voce versa). She is more inclined to scream if she has a diaper rash, I noticed.

When I transitioned to the big tub, I was a nervous wreck. I used one of the inflatable tubs for a long time. Maybe try that? It will give her more room and freedom than the infant tub, but still be a bit more confined, and secure for her?

Same with DS. I think it took about a month until he realize he could move around the tub, splash more, etc, and now he loves it. I'd try new toys and maybe the bubbles, too. And make sure you keep a hand on her at all times b/c maybe she doesn't feel sturdy yet.

It'll pass, I promise!

Re: bath time is no more fun...

We didn't have issues transitioning but DD loves baths. She tells me its bath time by grabbing her bath mat and throwing it in the tub! I found while making transitions in other areas we had difficulty, its best to make one change. So if you need to put the tub LO's used to in the big tub it will help. We also used the inflatable duck which was cute. Warm water, toys, bath mat etc. Also DD doesn't like bubbles so I don't do that so find out what LO likes.
