Bath Seat

Any good recommendations? We want to start bathing the girls together in the tub, the 19m old doesn't require a seat, but the 5m old does.

We had used the Safety First swivel seat with DD#1, we always used it locked so it coudn't swivel. We loved it, however, I was surprised it was recalled (per several on line recall sites). Anyway, before I buy it again (we tossed the old one) I wanted some feedback for other sturdy bath seats. Baby is far from ready to sit in the tub without a seat and I do not prefer to keep her in the sink bathtub. She can too easily reach the faucet and for some reason my faucet gets super super HOT at the base if you so much as run warm water. It's very odd, but is what it is and I like the babies out of the sink by about 6 or 7 months. One challenge we may have with any seat is I prefer a bath mat to be in place for the toddler, I don't think we can use any seat along with a bathmat.

Re: Bath Seat

I had the Safety First one and I returned it. I felt that it kept her too "far" away from the water, and I had a hard time cleaning her bottom. So, I just get in with her-- I know I am no real help, but I didn't like the Safety First seat at all...

There are others ones that I think may be better cause I asked at BBB, I can't remember the name though. We just decided to pass since I don't mind getting in the bath with her.

Re: Bath Seat

I don't have any recommendations for bath seats, but they do make faucet covers so if the kids touch the faucet they don't get burned - I would look into getting that as well.

How does it stay in place? Can you use it with a bath mat under it? If it's just suction cups, I would think you can't use a mat under it and it probably wouldn't be safe to have both kids in the tub together anyway, my older one can easily remove suctioned items.

The faucet cover won't work, it's the base that gets painfully hot. It's not the part that sticks out into the sink, but I've had to move the baby's hands away a few times, so it's getting bad. I had the same issue with my older one which is when I got the safety first seat. Yes, it is true that it is hard to wash their bottoms in that seat, but I always use the Aveeno bath treatment and figure that's the part that gets cleaned all the time with wipes. I do take the wash cloth and get in there as best as I can by leaning the baby forward and back. Not perfect by far, but I really liked that seat. I felt it to be very secure b/c it attached to the wall of the tub rather than just some suction cups or something.

I can't possibly get in the tub with the 2 of them, we'd need a tub the size of a swimming pool for the 3 of us, I would feel that it wouldn't be safe. I never really liked bathing with my kids - I did it once with my older DD, I always felt too slippery and it would make the bath stressful. After 2 c-sections I can't move as well either so my response time plus being wet and soapy doesn't sound like a good combo.

I wonder what most people do when the kids are transitioning from baby tub to big tub? I don't like the kids in the sink itself, even though I clean it with soft scrub I don't feel right about cleaning my kids where I dump dirty dishes. I'm probably just ODC like that though. Plus, that whole faucet base problem. It's a stainless steel sink too, I would wonder about how safe it is from a heat and bruising perspective. At least my tub is a vinyl tub-fitter. Guess most people just use the baby tubs or the sink.

We use this one also. The suction cups are very strong. I can't pull the seat up unless I pull the tab thing to release the suction. DD is almost 2 and I still use it. I have no problem reaching her bottom to clean it.
