Bank Vent (kinda long...sorry)
Sorry I try not to vent on here, but this really has my thong twisted. I belong to a credit union through my last job. It is in Garden City & I live in Babylon, and they have very off hours. Now that I work in Manhattan I do all my in-person banking through a shared services center in West Babylon. Today I had to re-charge my MetroCard so I did at the machine for $10. I then go to get breakfast up the road. MY CARD WAS DECLINED FOR $4.76. OK I figure it did not meet the $10 minimum purchase requirement, so I go to the ATM next door & I cannot access my account, not even to check the balance. So I get to my office without my breakfast & check it online. This particular account (that I use for all my ATM/Debit card purchases) have over$500 in it. All my other accounts have larger balances as well. SO WHY THE F can I not get a friggin bagel??? I called & they said it was due to overuse of the ATM. Overuse? That is what it is friggn for!! They said they'd review my case & release the ATM in a day or so. Meanwhile I have had no breakfast & have no money for lunch. When I asked them how was I supposed to get lunch they actually had the nerve to tell me to BORROW IT!
Can they really hold my money hostage like this??

my mother used her credit card buying my sister stuff for school. they saw it had a lot of acitivty in one day. when she went to purchase something it was declined. the called the c.c. company and they told her since there was so much activity in one day they put a lock on it. once she said she was making the purchases, it was ok. don't know if the atm cards work the same way

I know some places limit the number of times you can use an ATM but they should tell you that is the case. My bank has a $1000 ATM withdrawl limit for one day (I am not sure if that included purchases).
