Baby heartbeat monitor

Last night my BF gave me a baby heartbeat monitor that she had used during her PG. It's called an Angel Doppler. It has headphones attatched to the walkman sized monitor and this clear gel that you spread on your lower stomach. I'm only a little over 7 weeks and it says on the box that it picks up the heartbeat as of 12 weeks. I promised her I'd try it anyway so DH and I tried it late this afternoon. Both my husband and I heard a steady beating whooshing sound. I am not sure if it could be my pulse or something else. The other thing is, I heard the same sound on both sides of my lower stomach but it was more of a distinct sound on my left side. Has anyone else used this type of device? If so what were your results if you used it early on in your pg?

Re: Baby heartbeat monitor

It's your pulse.... It'll take you a few tries, but your LO's heartbeat will be a lot faster than yours is...

Re: Baby heartbeat monitor

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its too early to pick up the HB with the doppler.

I wanted to rent one so bad but DH said I'd drive him and me crazy if I couldn't find the h/b-he's right!

Re: Baby heartbeat monitor

I had one with my DD and that whooshing sound is probably the placenta. You will know if it's the heartbeat. The wooshing sound is slower, then you may hear your heartbeat. The baby's heartbeat will be very fast. At 7 weeks though it may be too early to hear. If you try, put it very very low by your pubic area. That early the baby is really low. Good luck!Chat Icon

Re: Baby heartbeat monitor

The babys heartbeat is about double of mine, thats how I can tell the difference.
I used it from 12 weeks and always find the heartbeat right away, like right at or above the pubic hair line. Only in the past 2 weeks has the baby been higher up that that.
