Baby Friendly vacations? cruises?

DH and I would like to take our DS on a vacation to the carribbean or somewhere nice next April. DS will be 18 months old. We're looking for BABY friendly vacations (lots brag to be family friendly, but offer lots for ages 3+, not so much for babies and toddlers)

We are considering Beaches in Turks and Caicos, but it comes with a very hefty price tag. DH does NOT want to go to Jamaica. Any other carribbean destination is fine.

Some cruises don't allow babies in pools even with swimmy diapers. That would be problematic for us.

So, we're looking to see if anyone out there has experience with great baby-friendly places and can recommend anything to us. TIA!

I would recommend checking out disney - since they are probably one of the top family friendly cruises out there.

Yes, but I read that even on Disney cruises, they don't allow swimmy diapers in pools.

Has anyone else had experience with them?

My old neighbor was a Disney fanatic and didn't do the cruise for this very reason.

I would HIGHLY recommend southern Maine. We just got back from York Beach with my 2.5 and 1 year old boys and it was a BLAST!! Beyond family friendly, even at that age.

Re: Baby Friendly vacations? cruises?

We went on royal caribb cruise and yes you could not wear swimmy diapers...

However all the toddlers that I saw and including my kids were in the pools.. The way to get aroound that is not to wear a diaper at all... One of the moms got caught with a swimmy and the swim police came over and just told her to take the diaper off.... So that is what we did and no problems...

That is the only way to get around it..

Could another way to get around this is using a cloth diaper? They probably wouldnt even realize it was a diaper.

I thought they had to be potty trained. My DS will be 18mo old and obviously not PT'd by then. What if he poops? That would be the reason for wanting to wear a swimmy diaper, no?

I just want to go somewhere nice and warm and not worry about pools! Chat Icon

This is the reason we haven't cruised - but disney has a splash zone near the mickey pool that they allow children in swim diapers to go into.

It is a US health code that says no diapers - and to someone who mentioned above about just taking them off. I would hope people wouldn't do that just to cheat the rules. What if your DC pooped then the entire pool has to be emptied and drained closing it to all guests on the ship for a day.

The best you will get is disney and RCCL (some newer ships) have splash water areas - but the pools themselves are for potty trained only. It stinks but most cruiselines will enforce it.

We have been on several cruises and I'm not a big fan of the pools anway. There is so much to do and you are at beaches several of the days usually.

ITA... I was the onesomeone who went in he pools without a diaper but so did many of the other toddler parents on ship and we were all in the kiddie pool only n the back of the ship where only families would be... Also, there are toddlers who get trained really early so they really can't question you..

But I was concerned about the pooping too.

I will say that we were off ship for 5 days and went to beaches at every island where the toddlers can wear swimmies... They were plenty int he water with out going into the pools on the ship..

My opinion-
I wouldn't worry about it too much and enjoy your cruise whichever ship you go on...
