Baby constipation from soy formula??

So DS is on soy formula which agrees with him (he had terrible gas and was screaming all the time on enfamil infant) BUT it makes him constipated.

I give him prune juice once a day but only and oz diluted bc I really do not want to be giving him a lot of juice (they recommened 2 oz 2x's a day for constipation).

I also put a therm. in his butt to help him poop.

I am fearful the solution is switching off soy and I am afraid he will be gassy and screaming again if I do.

Any btdt advice??

I dont' have any advice for you but, I am contemplating switching DS to a soy formula because he is extremely gassy and cries like he is in so much pain a lot of the time. I currently give him good start Gentle formula and he's been on it for a month now with no change. Before that he was on Enfamil newborn and then similac sensitive.. nothing was working so that's why the ped said to try good start gentle by gerber...

Now that I read your post about consitpation, I am wondering what do now.. I am SO frustrated.

Which soy brand do you have your baby on?

I have his 2 mos check up coming up and will ask the ped before I do any type of switching of formulas... ugh

Soy was our miracle.
Look on the back of the soy vs the advanced. See what the difference is in the iron. I am not sure if soy is higher in iron or what not but the iron is probably what is constipating him. Gosh, you cant catch a break.

For me, soy was a nightmare. My son became sooooo contipated that not even the thermometer would help. He was SCREAMING every time he tried to push. I had to help him get it out by scooping it from his booty hole with the tip of a q-tip. It was AWFUL and was an all day affair. DH had to hold his hand too to help calm him. it was like hard goose poop!!!

as a side note. upon looking into soy...I found some articles about Estrogen in soy & it disturbing the hormonal balance. I stopped using it immediately. theres also some articles about soy & hormone related cancers as well. I don't want to scare you...I'm not a Dr. nor am I a scientist but this is something I had never even heard of when I gave it to my son so it cant hurt to look into it and form your own opinion.

Yes, so is a know culprit of constipation....Isomil being worse than prosobee b/c it is a casein predominant formula. Have you tried gentlease? it is less constipating b/c of the partially hydrolyzed proteins.
