at what point do you call the pediatrician for feeding probs?

DS has been progressively fighting me and fighting me every bottle.

He used to eat 5-6 ozs, 5-6 x a day like a champ.

About a week and 1/2 ago, he started fussing at his night bottle, then every couple of days, the bottle before that and before that. He was good at his first morning bottle but would get worse and worse throughout the day.

Then it progressed to his morning bottle as well.

I've tried everything from changing nipples, to changing bottles, to burping him every oz, to giving him his pacifier and then switching it to the bottle to trick him.

He's fine the first 2 ozs or so, but after that, it's an all out wrestling match between the 2 of us but eventually I would get him to finish his bottle.

Then the past 3 days, he's completely refusing his bottle after a while.

We're now down to 3-4 ozs each bottle, so at 6 bottles a day, that's only 18-24 ozs. He's 13 lbs and 11 ozs, so I know he should be getting at least 32 ozs a day.

At what point do you call the pediatrician?

I never know if it's just babies being fussy and I'm being an overbearing new parent or if it's okay to call.

I called yesterday and hung up after being on hold for a while bc I felt like maybe this is just what mommies go through with fussy stages but now I'm concerned bc I don't think he is getting enough.

I would call if I thought DC had an allergy to the formula.

I would also call if I thought DC was failing to thrive.

Is DC sick? I know that a sign of my girls having had an ear infection is they wouldn't take their bottles.

IMO if he is eating something, there might not be a problem, he might just want to eat small portions.
Does his weight gain seem okay? Does he seem like he is hungry?

I think it is fine to call the doctor. I would call if I was in your position. Don't worry at all about being a fussy mom. I think it is better to be safe and call. It will ease your mind if you do. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't think he is sick. he seems fine other than the not wanting his bottle.

I guess that's the question, since it's only been a week and a half/two weeks since this started, at what point would you call the dr.? now that it's down to 3-4 ozs, I am afraid it will start to affect his weight gain.

as for being hungry, Chat Icon I can't really tell if he's hungry, I mean I feed him when he wakes up and every 3-4 hrs during the day. It's hard for me to distinguish his hungry cries from other cries, but really, to me he only seems to cry when he's overtired (this I can tell bc he's clearly fighting sleep), so I don't think he's hungry

DS was doing this around 3 months. At that point, we changed his nipples and it helped tremendously!

I'm not sure how old DC is or if the nipples may need to be changed, but you can look into it. The flow may be too slow now and frustrating DC.
