are there safe antibiotics during pregnancy
My allergies turned into a sinus infection I think. I am going to dr @ 4 today and jjust wondering if they can even give me anything.

I had my 16 week appointment and my sinus infection started a few days before, so i asked my ob/gyn.
she said that sinus infections don't usually respond to antibiotics anyway and unless I had a super high fever she wouldn't want to give me any.
she said I could take chlor-trimeton (which is OTC), but its a class C drug and you can't take it during the first trimester, so I decided I wasn't sick enough for it am just taking tylenol and drinking fluids.
I bought a neti-pot and have been using that 2x a day, it has been helping
feel better

your doctor didn't give you a sheet of over the counter things to take?
I would just call them and ask what they recommend. I had a sinus infection in the beginning of this pregnancy and I was able to take sudafed.

Crashing!
Continue using a neti pot. I know you said you didn't like it, but it works. I am prone to sinus infections and I like it so much better than those nasal sprays. You can use it mulitple times a day unlike antibiotics.

Z-pak is safe for pregnancy, I've taken it twice with this pregnancy so far.

I use the neti pot everyday, I have a list of OTC drugs and none of them have worked. I was told if it is a true sinus infection that you need an antibiotic to clear it up. so I just wanted to see if anyone knew if there were safe ones to take.

There are definitely safe antibiotics. I had to take them for a UTI in the first trimester. Hope you get some relief soon!

i don't think you should use the neti pot every day: doing so can wipe out the good bacteria/flora that should be in your nose, as well as some of the moisture, making your membranes dry and more prone to infections. Maybe do it 2x week?

I was given this when I was really sick a few weeks ago. I ended up not taking because I got better but my doctor said it was fine.

Definitely call your OB. When I was sick early on, my regular dr wouldn't even prescribe me anything. They don't want to be held responsible in case something happens. Weeks later I got strep and the OB was the one that tested me and prescribed an antibiotic.

Yes you can take certain antibiotics. I had a wisdom tooth pulled a couple weeks ago and was on Amoxicillin for 7 days. Anything Penicillin based is fine. Definitely speak with your OB though. They seem to call the shots for any medical condition while you are pregnant.
