Anyone's Kids Hysterical When Going to School in the Beginning???

We started the boys in Nursery School two days a week for 3 hours each day. We figured they needed to social interaction and to get them prepared for Pre-K. Well, they went on Tuesday and the teacher took the boys and told DH to leave right away and they were hysterical. Then all day yesterday they were saying I don't go back to school, I stay with Grandma (she watches them the other days). They were so bad yesterday. DH just called again and said they were hysterical walking into the school again and the teacher took their hands but they kept going Daddy!! He is so upset.

Is this normal? I really want to stick with this. I figure if they don't do it now they will in Pre-K. Just wondering if anyone else's kids were hysterical like this. Chat Icon

DS has gone to daycare 5 days a week since he was 6 months old. When he moved out of the infant room and to the two year old room, he was hysterical (same way as you were describing) and having meltdowns every morning. The morning meltdowns lasted almost a month and I felt so bad for him! By the third week, one of the teachers told me not to worry because the crying lasted less than 5 minutes and he went back to normal. It's a phase, but it gets better!

Completely normal. My older son was pretty upset for the first 2 weeks of nursery school. Just keep dropping them off and leaving. It's the best thing for them and soon they'll adjust. I know it's heartbreaking but totally worth it in the end.Chat Icon
