Anyone know any good hiking trails/areas

in nassau? I've never hiked, but I really want to try it. I just don't know if there's any place to go by me.

Also, is it something I have to work up to or can a beginner hike any trail?

I think it'd be great for me, DH and our dog to do during summer weekends

Massapequa Lake has some good hiking trails, but I haven't done them in YEARS. If you want to to get into the woods these are good trails. Just follow the one and two dot markings on the trees.

Honestly, I would be worried about safety. Not that it is a bad area, it is just you never know this day and age hiking through some woods. KWIM? If you are worried just stay on the main paved path. Those would be good so long as you are with someone else and it is daytime.

I love hiking, but I don't live in Massapequa, so I haven't done those paths in ages.

Thanks - yeah, I definitely plan on having DH with me. I'll check 'em out!

A lot of people start at Brady Park in Massapequa and walk through Bethpage State Park. There are a decent amout of hills and there are always people around incase you need something.

There is a trail across the street from our house..it runs from Massapequa to Cold Spring Harbor...it's quiet where I am, but there are people biking and walking through..it's nice, though..
