I know someone who did it for a year - her son is high needs and she didn't feel like the district was providing everything he needed and she homeschooled one year while suing the district.
She said it was very difficult, she felt like the state department of ed was constantly on top of her to make sure she was keeping up with curriculum.

Someone my girls dance with homeschools her kids...she has 5 kids and is having the 6th soon! She has a very rigid schedule for the day and a strict curriculum she follows. They are very happy with their choice and the kids seem to be flourishing. They keep them in outside activities so they still have the social interactions.
