Anyone ever tried to have their home address changed?

I know its kind of an odd question but its an odd thing. We live on a corner and our address is not for the street that we face, its for the street that runs alongside. It might sound like its not a big deal but you wouldnt believe what a big PITA it is. We have a door on that side but its not the front door and no matter what, 99% of the time, we cant get a decent delivery - even pizza! They just cant find the house... We actually make up a different address using the street name in front of our house and that works. For local deliveries. We obviously can do this with regular mail - Fedex, UPS etc. knock on the side door and I dont hear it upstairs...it's a big PITA especially with the kids, I dont want to leave them upstairs. Just explaining to people the address is just plain annoying. But the house was once a different address, the one that makes more sense - we found it in a few house records. We have no idea how or why it came about that the address was changed but we are thinking of trying to get it changed back.

Does anyone know where you contact for something like this????

I would contact your Town Hall and ask them what the proceedure is for that. That sounds like a real pain in the azz regarding deliveries!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone ever tried to have their home address changed?

The post office recently wanted to change my office suite # right after I had a brand new batch of business cards, letterhead and new contracts for a year's worth of print advertising. I was able to convince them to keep my old suite #. My office landlord seems to know a lot about addresses and post office rules from having owned many properties for a long time.

If you know anyone who owns a few properties, they may have had to deal with this in at least one location and maybe you can get advice.

I think you have a legitimate concern to bring up with your town. For example, would emergency services or city services be able to find your home quickly? You might find out, and include this concern for your town hall to consider.

This is a good point and people I know have had their address changed not on their own but by the county (or the town) in recent years due to the implementation of the 911 system. Maybe thats what happened to your house?

I know I found out our house number was not what it is now, when I first called the cable co. they had a different house # and it was because about 12 years ago or so 911 was implemented.

Like the others said, Town Hall will be able to direct you it could be the zoning board or the building dept., etc.

good luck

I was going to say the same thing!

Definitely a weird situation. I too would be worried about emergency services, God forbid. I have no idea where to even start, I guess town hall.
