Re: Anyone ever read the book PUSH?

Yes, i read it when I was getting my masters in lteracy as well. I really liked it. I especially liked the transformation she went through from beginning to end.

ETA: It is literacy related because through it all she was able to find her own voice by telling her story. If you look at the print in the book you can see how her literacy improves from beginning to end.

That book was very, very popular among the kids in my school when it first came out. I thought it was a bit too graphic for 8th graders and our principal wanted us to confiscate any copies.

Re: Anyone ever read the book PUSH?

My students read it quite often (at a local community college). It is often read in literacy courses because the young woman goes through the process of becoming literate throughout the book. While it is quite graphic and disturbing, it is a good portrayal of what an illiterate adolescent goes through.
