Anyone ever have birds nest in their house?

I posted a couple weeks ago that all teh sudden my entire yard is filled with bird poop.
I mean everywhere, you can't even walk, its splattered on teh sides of the house, the new pvc fence, deck, bbq, railings...you get my drift

at first i thought it was maybe just spring, but i have been living here 3 years and never had this issue, then i saw a neighbor had a bird feeder, and there are tons of black crows feeding off of it. I asked the neighbor if the feeder was something he recently put it, he said he's had it a while now, over a year.

So i called a bird control company.
They came today, and said we have nests in our gutters and sofits(sp)
Well 900 dollars later, I am hoping the problem is solved. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem, and what the cost was to get it fixed.

I hope i didn;t get ripped off, but i was desperate to fix this

we have had birds in our gutters every year. DH drags his feet and doesnt take the nest down while they build it. Now the babies are here again. We just wait till the babies leave and then we remove the nest.

We never paid someone to do it. But how many nests did you have for $900 to be taken down?

I think 2 or 3 nests we had, they put these tunnels in the gutters and sofits to prevent them from coming back, and they keep them on for a couple weeks then take them off, and he said our problem will be solved and 6 month guarantee.

I feel like it was very expensive, but he did come with 2 guys, so it was 3 men here working.

I wouldnt care if i had birds nesting at all, its just the bird poop everywhere, and its in the pool as well, and its dangerous cause that poop can cause disease he said.

my yard looks like the birds divebombed it lol

I couldn't have said this better myself.

I also had birds in our soffits growing up. My dad tried a lot of DYO remedies and they are still coming back years later so hopefully hiring someone is the way to go! Keep me posted!

Seriously... NEVER EVER EVER let birds nest on your house....we had a starling build a nest by our basement door .. I thought it was cute and I felt bad because there were eggs in there... well fast forward to when they decided to move out and they left BIRD MITES.. they infested my house.. it was the most DISGUSTING THING ever.... I was pregnant at the time so I moved in with my parents for a little bit, but they had to come spray my whole house a couple times and then I had to hire a cleaning crew to come clean my house from top to bottom.. I mean washing the kids toys to washing every single dish in the cabinets to steam cleaning the floors.. it was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!!!! I hate birds now

That is so scary, i don't think my DH realizes how important getting rid of these birds are.
He thinks i am the nut harping on the birds lol.
The bird poop can be dangerous, and carry disease and make you sick if you breathe it in.
In 3 weeks time, my entire yard is covered in poop, i have a neighbor 2 doors down that has a feeder and i see the birds flocking to the feeder all day long, and then they flyover and crap on my property. Its just so disgusting and its making me hate birds too.

They also perch on my railings and fence so i am going to have something like this put up so they cant land

Re: Anyone ever have birds nest in their house?

We had a bird nesting in our dryer vent a couple of weeks back, and then also in our attic!

DH had to replace the dryer vent going to the outside (we found 2 eggs in the wall) and then got rid of the nest in the attic-he had to put up metal mesh to keep them out.

So nasty.Chat Icon

We had something similar and paid about $400 or so (back in 2003). I think we used an exterminator. I want to saw Arrow, but not sure. Hope your birds are gone!!

I have a bird who made a nest above our patio.

I was going to wait until the eggs hatched to get rid of it but now there is no way I am waiting.

I will probally remove the nest when the bird is away and use a pressure washer and some bleach to clean the area.

Re: Anyone ever have birds nest in their house?

We have birds trying to nest in our gutter and front bow window. Dh is going out after work to evict them. May sound mean but I don't care if there are eggs in the nests. I have woods behind my house filled with trees. They can have their pick of any of those trees but not my house Chat Icon I refuse to be attacked by birds every time I try to enter or exit my home.

Re: Anyone ever have birds nest in their house?

Can't you talk to your neighbor about the bird feeder nicely and try to convince him to take it down? That's what I would do! If they aren't nice about it, I would stand out there and stalk them and buy one of those toy cap guns and shoot it off whenever the birds are there to scare them and condition them to stay away! lol

Please note I said TOY gun lol I'm not some looney bin that wants any bird shot dead lol

i did speak to the neighbor, he is very nice, my age, but they are defin a lil weird.
He said he could move it, but i was like no don't worry about it.
I don't think its an option for him to take it down.

I feel that the birds are feeding over by him and nesting by us. I wish i could offer him money to take it down, condsidering we just spent 900 on a person to come this weekend, and if we have to get the sonar and the bird spikes that is going to cost us another few hundred dollars.
If i was a homeowner and someone offered me 500 bucks to take down my feeder, i would do it in a heartbeat.
But i could never do something like that but that thought has crossed my mind.

I thought bird feeders were only supposed to be for winter? that's what my parents did - they took it down in the spring and put it up in the winter - otherwise they won't eat the bugs

Re: Anyone ever have birds nest in their house?

okay, I went out today to remove the next, not caring about if there were eggs or not.

To my surprise they hatched and little birds are in the nest.

Does anyone know, how long usually until they start leaving the nest so I can remove it. Days/weeks/months??

I don't want to kill them, just get them away so I can remove the nest.

They are still too young I think to fly.

Thanks
