Anyone a teacher or work around kids? Scary thing happend today
I had a little kid jokingly punch me in my stomach. He really is a good kid and ment no harm in it.
I freaked, left the area and immediately started to cry. (or course this was not the way I wanted my job to find out)
Luckily I go to the dr today, so I will be releived after tonight that all is ok.
But I was curious, those who work with kids, how do you prevent something like this? I guess I need to be more on guard. I interact with him everyday, but I guess you never know.

until a month ago i was working as a psychiatrist at a state psychiatric hospital. obviously a very different environment, but similar in that i had to be very cautious about people hitting me. i don't have any particular advice, except to be aware of who is around you and keep as much distance as you can.

i was 14 wks along before i told the kids n my school colleagues. my kids can be rough considering the environment, i kept my distance and always made sure that i had a book or clip board handy so that it would cover my abdomen. i teach k so they're not too aggressive, though there were times when children would throw temper tantrums and throw chairs, books, etc. once i told the kids, they made sure to keep adequate space when lining up or moving around the room.
remind them that there are presonal space boundaries they are not to cross.

I work with kids with autism and was full on PUNCHED in the stomach by a teenage boy, and another time pushed very hard by a little girl. By the time the girl pushed me I was already punched by that boy and got the freak out out of my system - your body is a lot stronger than you would imagine.... and everything turned out fine!

I not only work with but have a kid. Yes I have been hit, and even jumped on...no harm done...not to baby anyway

I also work with children who have a full range of varying disabilities.....80% of the students are highly aggressive and very often require physical intervention! I am scared and nervous every single day I go to work! I try to make sure that I am more alert than usual and that I am less hands-on as I would have been previously!

Just TTC right now, but I work with children who can be aggressive. Once, one grabbed my hair with one hand and punched me with the other. Had I been PG it would have been problematic.
I am actually more concerned that lack of personal hygiene skills contributing to colds and other communicable diseases would be more harmful than aggression. You cant leave a child because he has a runny nose, but you can run for the hills if he is throwing things.

I am a teacher and this has crossed my mind on more than one occasion....I have a behavior problem child coming into me class this year and I guess I will just have to be overly cautious.

I am a teacher and my best friend and co-worker had a very troubled student throw a chair at her and it hit her in the belly!!!
Luckily all was fine but I hope I wont have any issues like this when its my turn
