Anybody else have a delay with their NYS tax refund?
DH's status says that his required further review and it can take up to 4 weeks. Is anyone getting the same message? I remember this happened a few years ago but we were never audited. Is it because he claimed the child tax rebate/credit? and they have to verify he is eligible? #annoyed

Every year for the past 3 years our state refund has been delayed. It's BS. We get large refund, I'm convinced this is why it's held back every year. Last year I brought the check to the bank in September, the bank teller was shocked it took that long.

Are you talking about that check that everyone is getting for staying under the school tax cap? Or your actual NYS refund when you do your taxes?

HAven't filed, but last year I got fed deposited right away, and NY came months later.

Mines been in the "final" stage according to the system for well over a week! I got Fed within a week.

For the past few years we've gotten our Federal return VERY fast while NYS has dragged their feet for SOOOOOOOOO long. It's ridiculous how long it's been taking for us to receive our state return.

Yep, the state is verifying all refunds before issuing them. Whereas the IRS issues first and then verifies. Part of the reason in my opinion why Identity Theft with tax returns is such an issue. IRS issues too fast and people get taken without knowing it before its too late

Ah ok. In the past it usually came within a month but last year I thought it was strange that it didn't come, then at the end of April got a letter that we were selected for an audit. They wanted all of the receipts for job expenses that we claimed. Hopefully that's not the case for you.

DH is cut and dry. Taxes, mortgage interest and child tax rebate/credit. So if audited it should be smooth. Hopefully.
