Antibody test - no symptoms

If you were offered an antibody test but showed no symptoms, would you take it? Why or why not? Big debate I am having and just curious what others opinions are.

Aren't they trying to mass roll out antibody tests to specifically determine if a lot of people already had it with little to no symptoms? I am not sure why if you were offered the test you wouldn't take it, unless the purpose of the test was so that you could be a candidate to donate plasma, in which case then you should only take it if you are fairly certain you already had it.

I definitely would. What are the arguments against it?

My friend was saying bc she had no symptoms she is convinced she never had it and doesn’t want to go out to a doctors office and get tested bc she could than be exposed. She also said if she finds out she didn’t have it she will be more likely to lock herself in her house and if she found out she did have it she would be more inclined to be out in public and be more lax on distancing herself. She is totally against it ?????

If I was offered, yes.

Towards the beginning, I had a high temp for me (99-100) and a headache. I wonder if it was this? I doubt it because even the common cold usually leads me to bronchitis but, I am still curious. I also was exposed to people who had severe symptoms a few days later.

Re: Antibody test - no symptoms

If I was offered the test today, I wouldn't take it. I've been isolated since before the official quarantine. I would save the tests for people who need it more, since we don't have anywhere near enough tests right now. When there are more tests available, I would definitely take it. My reasons for "no" are purely to help those who need it more right now.

And, if I found out that I had it with no symptoms, I would see about donating plasma to help with the plan to give antibody plasma to people who are actively sick.

That really makes no sense to me. It's like saying you don't go to a Dr because you don't want to know if anything is wrong with you. Knowledge and information allows you to make better decisions, not just operate blindly and "hoping" for the best

Re: Antibody test - no symptoms

I see no reason not to. If it can help any scientific research or studies I'd be happy to help.
And of course if plasma is needed, it would be great to be able to donate to help the very sick.
I see no downside to it.

In theory, yes. But I am too scared of needles. But when they start letting people out, then I would like to take the antibody test. I don't know if I have had it, but I have been suffering from allergies for 2 months and I feel like it got mixed in there somewhere.

God I hate needles too. But I think I would do it anyway for something like this.

Re: Antibody test - no symptoms

I would absolutely agree to take it.

Is your friend aware that symptoms are not necessarily key?

Regardless, it doesn't matter. Everyone is going to have different feelings and opinions on this; just like politics. It's hard to persuade someone once they feel a certain way, even though you don't agree.

Everyone is ignorant in their own ways.....

I would - but I did have a really bad illness in March - I had a fever for days and I never have a fever so different situation. My husband and I were talking about this - he didn't have any symptoms but he would absolutely take it - especially since he works in a very large office.

Absolutely. I cannot wait until there is an antibody test available to take. I was very sick in in December...was diagnosed as a chronic sickness I get, but this time was very different...the shortness of breath was very scary and it lasted a good 3 weeks, not the typical length when I get ill. I would love to know if I had it already. Though I know they do not know enough about it to know whether you will be immune, and articles I have read lately seem to suggest we are not immune. But in any case, I would like to know for myself.
