another holiday decorating issue....decorating an empty room

we are planning on decorating the mantel area in our living room and laying gifts around it in lieu of getting a tree (we have a "Chrstmas" tree in our front yard that we are putting lights on)

the issue now is...the room is EMPTY.

and I mean EMPTY. not one chair, table, lamp, pillow, rug..not a THING. and won't have any until after the holiday.

that being said...would you just decorate the mantel area...or would you maybe extend it out through the room.

I was thinking of MAYBE taking Christmas balls and such with ribbon and stringing them up somehow across the ceiling.

this is our mantle (with previous owners furniture) it's been since repainted a lovely blue (Behrs Contemplation) and the ceiling beams are chocolate brown)

I LOVE your floors !!

I'd just do the mantel and put the gifts around it -

I think hanging stuff from the ceiling or on the walls is going to be hard to keep

I didn't think I'd like ornaments from the ceiling until I saw this pic KittytheStray posted last year.

I'd just do the mantel.... maybe some pine boughs around the curtain rods..

You should hang wreaths w/ luxurious red ribbon from the windows

THen get pine garland (fresh) and hang over the mantle
