Another gift question...am I supposed to buy something for the PE, music and art teachers too? (grade K)

That sounds like alot.. I can see buying for your dcs main teacher b/c they have them a majority of the day.. but all the others.. they do get a paycheck for doing their job. I would say save your money, and bake a cookies for dc to give them or chocolate lollipop if you feel to give something to say thank you.

i used to teach Kind & 1st grade art... i was touched when my little ones just gave me a card... a gift is not necessary but it is nice, because just like the other teachers, we do work our butts off...i know that when my DD is at that age I think i will ask her who her favorite special area teacher is and maybe get them a little gift... some kids got me cute little ornamants/keychains from the dollar store that said #1 teacher, or even a $5 giftcard to starbucks...

Ditto...I'm an elementary school librarian, and yeah, what she said!
It always amazes me - the generosity of so many. Whether it's a homemade card or gift card, the thought is always so meaningful to me.
And yes, we do "get a paycheck", but we see well over 100 kids a day, so although we don't have our own class, we are working very hard too!!
If times are tight, even a little handwritten card of appreciation will make their day.

when I was teaching PE, I loved receiving a gift card to 7-11. It's an easy gift to give and it goes farther than starbucks, or a homemade gift from the kids is nice to put in the office.
No offence, but the "special teachers" deserve just as much recognition as the "regular" teachers, and if you ask your kids, they probably like them better too 
ETA: Ask me the name of my 2nd grade teacher and I have to think hard, but ask me my music, PE, or art teacher and I can tell you before I blink my art. They may "seem" trivial, but they make your child a rounded person.

No way- i am the school librarian @ an elementary school and yes, some families send in a gift to me but i totally do not expect it and neither does gym, art or music. don't worry about it! i do think it is amazingly generous when a family does send in a gift and i so appreciate it -but it's not necessary.
edited to add that i agree that a written card or note is the nicest thing to get from a child- i keep them all!

I taught art for two years. Out of a school of 140 kids, I maybe received 5 gifts. It was nice to be remembered. A card would have been just as nice.

Sorry if I came across as a rant, I just get upset when pe, art, library, music get overlooked as teachers who deserve recognition too
