annoyed and need to vent a bit

I'm really annoyed with my boss at the moment. I asked for Friday off and she told me that the company president doesn't like people taking off this particular week. It is the week after a big conference we were at in Vegas - we worked for 12 days straight. No matter that SHE took off today. So today I'm talking to another girl, who tells me that she's taking off Thursday & Friday and I was like "Oh, I thought the CEO doesn't like..." and she looked at me like I was nuts and told me that she's never heard of that. To top that off, of the nine people that work on my floor, only four (myself included) are here today. And of the other three, two of them are taking time off this week. Now I could understand if my boss just didn't want me to take off but she made a point to say that its the company prez who doesn't like people doing that.

I'd love to say something to her tomorrow like, "I'm confused, I thought the CEO doesn't want ppl taking off this week. why is everyone taking off?" but i know that's probably not a good idea. i'm just really irrirated. any words of wisdom ladies?

This is exactly what I would say. Then again, I tend to be a very blunt person and that would really pi$$ me off if others were able to take off.

ITA. Either that, or, I'd be calling in on Friday. That's just not fair.

I am fuming...to the point where I'm near tears. This girl that sits near me just found out that someone else is taking off this week. she turns to me and goes "wow, robyn you really got f*cked."

I can't call in on Friday though - that's just too fishy since she knows I asked off for that day. i was thinking about asking for tuesday but our employee manual says you need to give two weeks notice so i know my boss will say no just for that very reason.

Maybe you can shoot her an email or just come out tomorrow and ask her.

This happened to me once. I was a Teacher Assistant. When I was hired, I asked for the Friday of Labor Day (Kind of exaggarated and said that my parents already booked hotel rooms, etc). It was no problem.
Then my director forgot she already told me no problem and tried telling me I HAD to come in that day because the head teacher was off..
"Ummmm NO". Didn't happen. Not my fault she screwed up.

I would just try and confront your boss.

You may want to revisit this and ask why others were permitted to take off. Don't mention names or you will not make any friends. (I don't know if you care)

Bring it to her attention and then let it be. At least you said your peace. Ask for another day off instead and see what she says.

If you are getting resistance, then I would fire back with something stronger.

yeah, that's what i was thinking but my boss is a wacko and i don't know how to word something that won't backfire in my face.

ETA: any suggestions on how to be sugar-y sweet and get my point across?
