And so it begins.... I need help with my floors!!

the second guessing of my own "decorating" decisions. We're having our hardwood floors refinished before we move in next week and I had to go to the house to pick the stain by myself since DH can't get out of work all week. When I picked it I was so sure I liked it. But I brought home samples to show DH and as I'm driving home I started thinking I went too dark. I can still call the floor guy & change it, but it's very hard to get back out there with DD (the house it approx. an hour from our apartment.) I guess I could call him and ask him to make it a touch lighter. Ugh!!! I was so determined to not be so bad with decisions on this. Chat Icon

Re: And so it begins....

The floors are oak and we wanted a little darker than they were. But I'm thinking I went too dark brown (like mud/dirt color) when I really want more honey/caramel, just darker. I know I'm making no sense. I'll try to post pics.

This is what they looked like before (the day we made the bid on the house):

I think it was oak with a light stain and poly on top. We're doing stain, then 2 coats of Traffic water based finish (Bona Kemi.)

Here are the samples of the new stain:

This is on the countertop in the apartment so disregard that. The trim and the stairs are all dark wood - closer to this new muddy brown stain.

And here's another pic of the way the floor was when we bought the house:

Ugh!!! Chat Icon I think I need to call the floor guy and make it lighter. Any opinions? I am driving myself crazy. Chat Icon

It doesn't look too dark to me... It seems close to my bro's floors and his aren't dark at all.

When you were saying dark I thought like a dark walnut color and all I could think of was dust showing...

I think you picked a nice color!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I needed to hear that. Chat Icon And it looks like I have a little bit of time to decide. The floor guy called me and I need to go out there for something else tomorrow morning. I told him my doubts and he said we could look again then. He won't be starting the stain before then. whew! Now DH can see the samples and help me decide.
