Am i wrong?Re: Drinking( coffe not alcohol LOL) in church

So we had ds christenign saturday and a few of my family memebers got there early so they went to get coffee and brought it back to the church. By that time i had gotten there and we wree all standing in the back of the church i said dont you think we should go drink that in the lobby area? So everyone is telling me i am crazy and that its perfectly ok to drink it in the back of a church BEFORE a ceremony. My aunt who goes to church every sunday says its ok bc i wasnt having a mass so they didnt have the eucharist on the alter. I won and made everyone including my dh 80 year old grandma( she a young 80-) go stand in the lobby area. Let me add it was a private ceremony and we do know the preist very well and he is a young down to eartth guy but stilll am i wrong?

Lapsed Catholic here...I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing something to drink into the chuch either, Maybe it's different if you don't have a mass. Much to DH's dismay, I've nursed in church before, so kids are exempt from it in my mind.

There are churches that have coffee in the back of the chuch after mass, but in the Church I went to, it was downstairs. Maybe that's where I'm getting it from.

I don't know...IMO I think it isn't right. I think the only time anything food or drink wise should be brought into the church is for a baby.

i am jewish, so i can't really comment on bring food/drink into church, but i don't think you are wrong - i would NEVER bring food or drink into synagogue, whether there is a service going on or not.

please pardon my ignorance, but why would this have made a difference?

hmmm when i first started reading i said definately not, you should NEVER bring food or drink in, especially since youre not supposed to have anything before the body and blood..but then when you said there was no Eucharist, i had to think about it..
i still FEEL like its wrong, but im not sure "guidlines" wise, if its a rule or something..i know i even feel guilty bringing a bottle of water in for myself, and im pregnant and get very dizzy and nauseaus..even beforfe this pregnancy i have alot of health issues which would cause me to pass out so i always carry cold water on hand in case, but still..always felt guilty
Glad you stuck to your guns!

I wouldn't dream of it...

But then again, I'm Greek Orthodox, and the women still don't wear pants in church! Strict strict strict!

According to the Catholic church, you are supposed to fast at least one hour before receiving the Eucharist.

As for drinking coffee in the back, I would've thought it weird, but without the Eucharist, I'm just not sure what I would've done. If anybody tried to walk inside with the coffee, then I would've tackled them.
