I just drove past it, it's enourmous compared to my house!
Technically, we can afford it, but I wouldn't want to live paycheck to paycheck.. We save a decent amount of money now and it would all be thrown in to supplement the down payment, plus we need to find a buyer for our house. We are in love though, I keep lookign at the listing!!!!!

Ok-SO I went to see it....Technically, it's affordable for us, but it would have to be teh house of all houses for us to consider it. I really thought it would have been! I feel better now...
First of all, it's on Broadway...there are stores on the front of teh block and at the end of the block. It's right near the train station.
The apartment that it has would need to have teh kitchen redone because it only has a rangetop. My FIL lives with us and he needs a stove!
They have carpet on the walls leading up to the bedrooms. ***? Wallpaper on the livingroom walls. A gold railing that Juliette could easily fall through upstairs which overlooks the LR> The thrid bedroom is what they have been using as a dining room. We need a house only for the third bedroom! Three of the four bedrooms have tiling from the year of the flood-and countertops to match...
Estimated value of updating, over $70,000. I would say atleast $45000 for teh bathrooms, $10000 for the kitchen in the apartment and $15000 for normal things that I would need done. If I had that money to blow, I would have a house built...
I feel better now though! It looked perfect from the pics!
I know abouut the taxes, our 2 bedroom taxes are $8000!

I'm glad you went to see it, I know its big but to me it looked liked it needed a good bit of updating. My taxes are 1/2 that so that amount makes me  but I know its not bad for that area.
I find foxtons to have some of the best photos around. I think their pics make every house look good.
Something better will come along, are you seriously looking?
Look at this house, they've lowered the price 3x for a total of 30K, I'm sure an apartment could be added

Is it the Malverne SD or Valley Stream? I would not pay that much for Malverne SD unless I was willing to incur the additional cost of sending my kids to private school.

I went to Malverne, I am planning on sending my daughter to Malverne. I have no problem with it. I think that kids will learn wherever you put them. It's the parents responsibility to keep them on track.
ETS: I am now in the Malverne district....

The taxes were probably high because of the pool and that sun room. When Malverne raises their taxes because of "extras" they really raise them That is why we haven't added on or built a pool

My district in suffolk gets bashed on here too, even though I've posted the facts about the scores many times. People very sadly equate racial diversity with a bad district. Its unbelievable.
And I agree wholeheartedly that the PARENTS will deterime the level of acedemic success a child has. Teachers & school districts should play a much smaller roll.
I love that little house on your street, its so pretty.
My stepdaughter lives in lynbrook w/her mother & goes to lynbrook schools. She's in 7th grade & so far that district has been very good. the taxes are  though.
