Oh God Guys...
The nurse just called me and Bill was having too hard a time breathing on his own and wasn't getting enough Oxygen and they had to put him on a respirator.
She said they are going to try it for 24 hrs and then see if he's okay to breath on his own again afterwards...
I am so freaking out right now. I can't even go up to the hospital because my car is in the shop and I have Emily so I can't take a cab there....

I may take off Friday if you need someone to watch Emily. I realize I'm not conveniently located but you can drop her off whenever you want...and if you can handle it even on Thursday night.

He is in New Island because we live in Levittown and it's the closest hospital....
Maybe offer some Nursing Advice? I was shocked and really upset so I didn't really know what to ask the nurse.
How severe can this be if they needed to put him on a respirator????
She was asking me if he was having other problems --- pains and stuff like that lately -- which he has been a LOT and went to his primary and they kinda brushed it off and just gave him a temporary muscle relaxor which really didn't help. When the nurse was asking me questions I just didn't have the answers to a lot of stuff, and she said "Well, he's probably just trying to protect you" and I asked her what she meant and she said by not telling me everything that he has been going through...
and now it is just freaking me out that more is going on then I thought...
She said he is sedated and will be sedated until they take him off of the respirator because they don't want him to panic and try to take the tubes out of him. She said he's recieving medicine through his IV...

Where has his pains been-in his chest/back region. What did any chest x-rays show.
It is for his own safety to keep him sedated while on a respirator-although it seems so scary.
Seriously, any questions fm me and I can try to help. Or if you really need a babysitter-let me know, I can travel I only work tonight and then I'm off.

My FIL is up at the hospital now ... the hospital wanted someone to come up and go over some questions and to pick up bill's belongings since he's sedated and they didn't want to leave them around -- so My FIL went since he knows more of Bill's back medical history anyway then I do. After he comes back from the hospital hopefully I can use his car to go up and he'll stay with Emily.

I'm in the city with no car, so I am no help. I just want to send you and . I'm sure everything will be OK. Doctors just have to be extra cautious these days. It sounds like they are taking his condition very seriously now. He will get the care he needs
