Our New Year's Day Baby!

Hi girls! I just wanted to share that DH and I had our baby on New Year's Day! What a way to start the new year. DS came at 39 weeks. I was in contractions all day New Year's Eve that were like 10 minutes apart but not extremely painful. I started to lose my plug and I thought my water had broke. I called my doctor at 4:00 PM and he sent me to L&D. He said I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and in early labor. I told me to call back when the contractions were 3-5 minutes apart that lasted longer than a minute. Around 8:00 PM the contractions started getting stronger. They were 6-7 minutes apart for most of the night and I was doubled over in pain. I couldn't breathe and I couldn't walk. Around 2:30 AM they were finally 5 minutes apart. I called back hysterical crying from all the pain and they told me to come back. When I got there I was still 3 cm dilated but now 90% effaced. I took the epidural at that point. I was hoping to last a little longer without it but that didn't happen. Within 10 minutes I was pain free. It didn't make me loopy but it did help me relax and since by at that point it was 4:00 AM I was able to sleep. The doctors came in every so often to check on my progress. My contractions became irregular so they gave me pitocin. After a little while the contractions started to regulate. Some time after that they came in to break my water but the membranes were stuck to the babies head. Another doctor came in and fixed that. Around 1:30 PM they said it was time to start pushing. I was pushing for about a hour. The doctor came in and told me that DS moved his head sideways and he tried moving back but DS moved sideways again. He said that my pelvis is not shaped for him to come out with his head sideways so we have to do a c-section. They prepped me for the c-section and we had DS at 3:40 PM. The operating room was freezing!! My arms were shaking the whole time. When I got out I was freezing also. They had to cover me with like 5 blankets. They let me and DH be with him for like 5 minutes and then I had to go to recovery and they had to take DS to the nursery. I didn't get to see him for 5 hours. Eventually, we went to our room and we staying in the hospital until Friday. The nurses at North Shore were truly great. We are home now and things are a little crazy, but we are making it work.

DS was born at 3:40 PM. He weighed 7lbs 4 oz and was 20 inches long.
