7.5mths and refusing solids

I started DD on solids at 6mths. We had been doing cereal and veggies and fruits. She had been doing fine but ate very little (2-4tbsp of cereal per day and 1/2 jar if that of stage 1 fruit or veggies with lunch and dinner. I had started to give her some table foods (gerber puffs and cheerios) to get her used to feeding herself and she seemed content doing this then she started refusing the baby food so I tried giving her more table foods (mashed sweet potatoe, small bite size bananas, a few grains of rice, etc...) She would eat only one or two bites then refuse. Now the last day or two she wants nothing to do with any kind of solid except a few cheerios. All she wants to do is nurse. I was looking forward to cutting back on a nursing session or two when she started to increase her solids but now that's not happening. My goal is to bf for a year but now I'm worried that she wont be eating enough by then. Her weight has never been an issue she has always been in the 75-90% but at this stage I don't want her sole nutrition to be only breastmilk. Any advice? Sorry for going on so long.

It may be teething. I totally understand you're wanting to cut back on nursing but keep in mind that her primary nutrition is BM even if she were eating solids. They also just go through phases. Ellie periodically goes through phases where all she'll take is jarred fruit but no veggies or dinners. It might be something like that. If so then give her what she'll take for a few days and see if it goes away. If it continues then maybe talk to the ped.

My DD did this and I realized that she didn't like the texture of baby foods. When I started giving her cut up solid food she ate all of it.

I think it's teething as well...

DS gets fussy with his feedings when he's teething.

This happened to Parker when she started teething. It was a challenge to get her to eat. Do you think that could be it? Will she take her "favorite" food or is she refusing everything?

Her favorite used to be sweet potatoes now after a bite or two she wants nothing more to do with it.

ITA! Gianna went through this right about the same age, we started solids at the same time too. It lasted about 2-3 weeks, then she went back to eating solids. We kept offering it to her, but not forcing it. Sooner or later she opened her mouth againChat Icon

DD still doesn't eat as much as other babies her age do, i stopped comparing, it drove me crazy. DD is in the 50th percentile for weight, she eats, drinks I am happyChat Icon She's almost a year old now and really eats anything we put in front of her, just not that much of itChat Icon

Thanks guys I guess I'll just keep trying to offer her some but not push it and hopefully she'll come around.

keep trying but don't push it - I started DS with cereal at 5 months, just cereal for a month than slowly added fruits and veggies - he only just started puffs at 7.5 months

Re: 7.5mths and refusing solids

It totally sounds like teething. We just had a three day hunger strike over here. Ava would not eat a single thing beyond a few spoonfuls of oatmeal, and she is usually an adventurous eater. I just kept offering her foods at mealtime, and telling myself that when she's hungry, she'll eat. Three days later, she decided not eating didn't agree with her and is back to scarfing everything down. And she's getting a big sucker of a tooth, so I attribute it to that.
