When do kids start to "play" with themselves?

DD is almost 14 months. The last few weeks, she's been really feeling herself. She also started humping the floor and her bedChat Icon
Whenever i'm changing her or she's in the bath naked, she immediately grabs herself.

I'm not ready for this lol i was hoping it was just a boy thing Chat Icon

DH said to me last night "I hope this isn't a preview of what she's going to be like later on in life"Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's normal to start this young, right??

Re: When do kids start to "play" with themselves?

I think it is fairly common. My DD was obsessed with it for a while and I would just send her into her room. I think she started around 2 years old though. I never made it seem like a no-no when she started but I would try distracting her and get her to focus on something else. I wouldn't want DD to be embarrassed about her body and learning about it. When my DD started I just told her that those things were to be done in the privacy of her own room. It died down after a bit.

I've been distracting her too with toys or i'll start splashing around the tub for her. It's usually not longer than a few secs but its definitely multiple times a day.
I think she's too young at this point to understand what she's doing though.

I am sure she doesn't understand what she is doing and it is just a new sensation to her. I wouldn't get too hung up on it.Chat Icon

Yeah I would let her do it but explain when she's old enough to understand thats its private, probably closer to 2 years old I would think. C does this once in a while and its only for a few seconds in the bath, sometimes while changing his diaper or he'll giggle when I change him. Its just new to them I dont think its bad as long as she's not humping in kindergarten Chat Icon
