5 day transfer

I found out yesterday that I am scheduled for a 5 day transfer rather than a 3, which will be tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of this. I was told it was a good thing and researched it some on the internet but wanted to hear maybe some 1st hand experiences.

Re: 5 day transfer

From what I have read, it means that the embies they have are all at this point in good shape and they are going to wait 2 more days to see which ones are the most viable. So if for example you have 6 right now, and all 6 have progressed well, they won't know which (2, 3, 4 depending on what you have chosen) to put back. Waiting 2 more days will show which develop the best and are most likely to stick.

It is very good news!!

thanks so much Kara, the nurse who called and explained it to me said it was good, but was very vagued and didn't give me much more info. Possibly since 17 fertilized out of 20 and I'm only putting back 2 this makes sense.

I was mentally prepared to have it done yesterday and now I'm a little off! But if its a good thing I'll take it!! Chat Icon

Re: 5 day transfer

thats great news - from what I've read, the strongest survive till day 5

also, on day 3 the embie woul dbe in a tube still and putting them into the uterus is not their expected environment. by day 5 they would be in the uterus

did you get quality results from them?

Oh ok, that helps me understand a bit more. Thanks!

I had asked the nurse for more info regarding quality, etc and she said that they (the embryologists/dr's) had not given her that info.

Re: 5 day transfer

a 5 day transfer is GREAT. I was also told that a 5 day transfer has a better chance at implanting...sounds GREAt to me. That means they made it to the blastocyst stage
When is your transfer??

that is awesome. I think because you have so many they are willing to take the chance of losing some to see which are the best.

I know when I asked my RE to do it, he wont because I have so few that if I lose any I am in bad shape.

What RE do you use?

Re: 5 day transfer

I had my transfer on Saturday and we put back two. We were told they were a 5 and a 4 5 being the best and 4 very good (obviously not the grade, but not sure what the numbers are) and that are chances are 60-70%. I have to go in next Monday for my blood test. I hope you're all correct about it being a positive thing I had a good feeling about the whole thing when we were there for the transfer.

But I'm trying to be indifferent about the whole thing bc I know if it doesn't work out I'm gonna be really bummed yet again Chat Icon Although I'm trying to keep positive, its hard!

Out of the 17 that fertilized 13 continued to grow, two were put back and 9 were able to be frozen.

I go to RMA of NY and my doctor is Dr. Alan Copperman. I love it there, I have not one complaint. Chat Icon
