5 Boroughs evacuation for Hurricane Irene
I just got this NYC Alert:
Hurricane Irene is heading toward the Northeast this weekend, and may bring with it high winds, heavy rain and flash flooding. Be prepared - find out if you live in a hurricane evacuation zone and plan ahead – make sure you have the necessary essentials at home in advance of the storm.
I am sorry- I cant get the maps to load- I think its an employees of NY City site. If I am able to figure this out will post it again.
But for now- it shows all the 5 boroughs that are near the water as evacuation zones.

 I think this is just showing what zones would have to evacuate - coastal areas like Coney Island etc... not the whole city.
Could you imagine that? Or even worse- trying to evacuate LI?
We'd all die on the LIE!

we can barely make it out east on a friday- imagine everyone on the roads to escape irene? oy

The only thing is, there would really be no need to get on the LIE because going East or West is not going to get you any further away from the hurricane, if it goes right over the island. The best thing to do is to get the furthest away from the water or the shore which means moving inland. Leaving the island altogether is most likely unneccessary and probably impossible unless you have a boat (which would be suicide) or a helicopter (again, possible suicide).

the link worked but when i put in my address it said proxy server error or something like that

You can pretty much figure out where you are...
that group of orange islands next to the word Jamaica Bay is where i am

Eh, same co-op complex.
I'm on the second floor, so I'm not that worried. The nasty old lady that lives below me should worry.
If I do have to evacuate, I do know that the local school is the coastal evacuation center. I hope they let me bring in my wine.
