Re: bad burn on finger..what can i do.
They say to avoid ice/butter! Definitely take some advil or tylenol as a pain reliever. Here's the recommended treatment:
Thicker burns, called second-degree burns, have blisters and are painful. The skin is very red or splotchy, and it may swell a lot.
Second-degree burn Soak the burn in cool water for 15 minutes. If the burned area is small, put cool, clean, wet cloths on the burn for a few minutes every day. Then put on an antibiotic cream, or other creams or ointments prescribed by your doctor. Cover the burn with a dry nonstick dressing (for example, Telfa) held in place with gauze or tape. Check with your doctor's office to make sure you are up-to-date on tetanus shots.
Change the dressing every day. First, wash your hands with soap and water. Then gently wash the burn and put antibiotic ointment on it. If the burn area is small, a dressing may not be needed during the day. Check the burn every day for signs of infection, such as increased pain, redness, swelling or pus. If you see any of these signs, see your doctor right away. To prevent infection, avoid breaking any blisters that form.
Burned skin itches as it heals. Keep your fingernails cut short and don't scratch the burned skin. The burned area will be sensitive to sunlight for up to one year.

I don't know if it'll work now(depending how long ago this happened), but when you first burn yourself the best medicin is to pee on it. I am not kidding.

Do you have an aloe plant in your home? If so, cut off a "leaf", slit it open, and rub your thumb along the inside of the "leaf". then wrap it in gauze lightly. The alloe will pull the burn out and soothe the area.

Re: bad burn on finger..what can i do.
my uncle once burned his arm on a steam pipe at his work. he poured bleach on his arm. np pain, no marks, no blisters... all i could think was "of course he'd feel no pain- he just killed all the nerve endings in his arm!"

Re: bad burn on finger..what can i do.
Thanks all.
I ran it under luke warm water and it helped a lot.
Then my husband insisted I soak my finger in whole milk for a half hour. It worked like a charm. Hardly any blister, when it was huge last night and it took the stung right out. Before I did these two things, my thumb was throbbing, I got the chills and it was burning. God bless burn victims, its all I was thinking about the whole time. Thank you all for your ideas!
