Re: Poll - Homeownership

I'm kinda in the middle. I don't think homeownership is all it's cracked up to be. But so far I don't feel like money has been sucked out of me (although we have put alot of money into the house it was all expected.)

Re: Poll - Homeownership

I was just in the same funk, I think that i am slowly coming out of it.

I think I like my house more (but only a little bit) in the summer b/c i know i wouldn't have a backyard where I used to live.

Re: Poll - Homeownership

We bought a "cosmetic fixer" house. So, we have stuff to be fixed (like most houses on LI which are at least 50 years old!) but the house is really sound.

I feel the same way.

Owning a home always means having something to do on it even if it is brand spankin new or 50 years old. I think it comes with the territory unfortunatly.

Hopefully nothing else goes wrong for you Chat Icon

Same here...and I love it. I don't know if I would classify it as a "dream come true" but she's been really good to us and we've been having fun fixing her up Chat Icon

Re: Poll - Homeownership

I say dream come true, I feel very lucky to be young and able to own a nice home, in a nice area-we are lucky that we haven't had to put much money into our home because it was newer-and everything we did do, was expected

I am so sorry your sad. I have the same feeling you do sometimes I wish I had the money in the bank instead. It stinks when things break and we have to fix them especially when it's a surprise. Overall I am happy I have my house at the end of the day. It feels good to own something so special.

A little bit of both for us. Whatever we put into it we know we will get back but it's ALOT of work and $$. It's a beautiful house and I do feel blessed.....

Re: Poll - Homeownership

Even though houses always need fixing, I enjoy it. I like fixing thing around the house (although the leaking roof was NOT fun...... Chat Icon )

Overall, for me, it's definitely worth the time and money. I often wonder how people manage owning a house when they aren't able to fix things themselves.... I do so many things around the house that would cost $$$ to have a professional come in and do.

Re: Poll - Homeownership

Definately a dream come true...I feel blessed to have the home we have & honestly sometimes feel I am so young to own a home! We bought our house from a contractor that completely re-did our home. So anything we do to it now, ups the value

Re: Poll - Homeownership

not a homeowner, but lately I have had feelings of it being overrated for some.

We bid on one, it was too late.
Bid on another, inspection came back terrible, so with a baby on the way, we moved into a new apt.

Saving for a home was our long term goal, we definitely wanted to buy, but I have grown to love apartment style living. I love that I have a pool, that I don't take care of. I love that I don't have to replace anything.

I know building equity would be nice, and the interest and taxes we are paying on banked money suc ks...but when I was doing the paperwork for the mortgage, I could not believe how much of the payment goes to interestChat Icon
So for the time being, I am a very happy renter.

Re: Poll - Homeownership

Although my house needed work before we moved in, I wouldn't pass up the neighborhood, house itself (we wanted this particular style), size of the property (we have a 1/2 acre), or town. Our home has tons of possibilities and we are excitedly researching what we want to do with it next. We definitely didn't settle and I'm SO happy that when the house was offered to us we JUMPED on it!

Re: Poll - Homeownership

Dream. There are things that go wrong (and that are payful to pay for), but all in all it is SO nice to have our own space, our own backyard. Plus I love decorating and making the space my own.

Re: Poll - Homeownership

somewhere in the middle...I love owning a home and I love my house...It's far from a money pit but I have come to terms with the fact that we will always be putting money into it and something will always need to be done.
I don't have my "dream house" and it was not new construction.
