My Buyer May be Backing Out

My Buyer May be Backing Out

I posted last week that it looked like we had a buyer. They made an offer, we accepted, their credit, etc. checked out. On Tuesday, he wanted to do an inspection of the co-op which I took as a good sign. The inspection seemed to go well (there were a couple minor things wrong with the place, and one we will fix before we leave). Nothing big, and the buyer was asking my realtor questions about how soon he could close, the application, etc.

The next day, I get a call from the realtor. Most of the money for the down payment came from his Mother-in-law, and she has some objection to the place. I don't know what. Or this is what he says anyway--I do wonder if something with the inspection or seeing the place again turned him off.

Anyway, he's supposed to let us know what he's doing by Monday.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am soooo frustrated at this point! Why can't I just find a buyer? I am so sick of picking up constantly, for what? Crappy offers and flakey buyers.

Yes, yes I know it's a buyers market these days, and buyers are dictating the market (obviosuly), and it does indeed suck for sellers, but why can't I find just one normal person willing to commit? Can you tell I am getting very bitter about this process?

I am so sorry to hear this. I can not imagine the emotional rollercoaster that you have been going through,

I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that it all works out.

ugh. i'm sorry that is happening to you. sounds like the buyer's mil is leveraging the fact that she's giving the down payment, which really isn't fair. a gift is a gift.

Re: My Buyer May be Backing Out

I soooo feel your pain. We lost 3 buyers, even after home inspections....just relax. The entire real estate game is what my agent refers to as "the ride of your life". Hang on, it's almost over. There is a buyer for every house...

Thanks for your messages. I know I'm being whiney, but I've had it. We've had this place on the market for 9 months now, and I am tired of the roller coaster, as someone said. I'm tired of people who are say they are really interested in our place, make offers, and then back out for one reason or another, or just disappear. Maybe I'm judging them because I just don't operate that way. If I make an offer, I'm truly interested.

As I said before, I'm also sick of constantly picking up, hiding my personal stuff, removing as many signs that people live there as possible, etc. It doesn't quite feel like my home!

I totally understand, but it is all worth it in the end. With the spring here, you should find some one soon. Hang in there!! And don't worry, you aren't whining.

Not being whiny at all- we had finally just decided to pull our house off the market when a serious buyer finally came through- the guy was literally taking the sign down when this guy and his agent came to see the house....

It sucks trying to sell in this marketChat Icon

Re: My Buyer May be Backing Out

Thank you for all of your good thoughts and support! I am feeling better today. We're supposed to have an answer one way or another on Monday, so we'll see what happens. It's not over yet.

This makes me glad that DH and I are financing everything ourselves. At least our family can't object to our decisions because they are giving us money. If this story is true at all--I'm finding people aren't very forthright in this process sometimes.
