How do I get my medical records to change doctors?

Can I just send the request in writing? I'm so angry that I can't even stand the thought of talking to anyone in my doctor's office right now.

you just send a letter to them. sometimes the new doctor will have their own request form and you can fill it out and send it to the old dr. and they will send the records straight to the new dr.

If you get a new OB, can't the new office obtain the records for you? I would think you just had to sign off on it maybe? I have no idea! sorry you are dealing with this!

I had to fax my current OB a letter and they sent my records directly to the new OB.

I guess I should find a new doctor first. I was thinking of Dr. Hanauer, but just based on the number of people on here that go, it seems like she has a very large practice and I don't know that I want to deal with that.

I love my OBs office, Im kind of sad Im done having kids. It's a male doctor though. If you are interested, FM me.

I've had records sent to new doctors. Some offices will charge you $ to copy them but you can easily request a copy or fax. A new doctors office will probably even have a form you can send the old OB to request the records be forwarded.

My new doctors' office had me fill out the paperwork at my first visit and they took care of getting all my records. I left my OB mid-pregnancy and really didn't want to have to worry about it and I didn't. Good luck!
